The role will partner directly with the editors of the masthead, as well as their counterparts at The Sydney Morning Herald in Sydney.Day to day you will:
  • Prepare clear, accurate, balanced, well-written stories in a timely manner
  • Ensure all copy meets legal requirements
  • Take ownership of stories/issues and follow up stories when appropriate
  • Demonstrate excellent news judgment and knowledge of current affairs
  • Ensure the highest standard of accuracy, ethics and editorial quality
  • Meet agreed deadlines
  • We are a seven-day newsroom and weekends and public holidays will be required
The role is a hybrid position based in our Docklands office and will include day + night shifts (including weekends) on a rotating roster.Please note there will be a writing test as part of the interview process.QualificationsWhat we would like to see on your resume:
  • Previous experience in a major newsroom
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to deliver to tight deadline
  • Proven ability to quickly respond to Breaking News and an ability to identify contacts for comment
