Mildura Rural City Council offers a unique and exciting work and study opportunity within our Civic Compliance Branch for a Building Officer.

This exciting position will see you working alongside Councils Municipal Building Surveyor and Deputy Building Surveyor, gaining valuable hands-on experience in all parts of the building legislation and providing basic professional technical building advice while you’re supported in completing your qualification.

As a member of the Building Team you will grow your skill base while completing study to become a registered building practitioner in the category of Building Surveyor or Building Inspector.

Position Objectives The officer will be responsible for:

• Carrying out the statutory function of Building Officer (Cadet) for the municipality, processing building applications under the direct supervision of the Municipal Building Surveyor and to provide basic professional technical building advice.
• Providing a responsive and customer focused Building service to residents and clients of the Mildura Rural City Council.
• Assisting the Municipal Building Surveyor and Building Staff to ensure Council’s statutory obligations and risk management liabilities are correctly administered throughout the Municipality.
   

Qualifications and Experience

Ideally the successful applicant will have the following:

• Demonstrated awareness and or experience within the Building and or Construction Industry which may include a basic understanding of/ about being a Building Inspector/ Building Surveyor in the context of Local Government.
• Completing study to become a registered building practitioner in the category of Building Surveyor or Building Inspector. The incumbent will receive level one support as per Councils Professional Development policy and is expected to demonstrate they are working to achieve their degree/ study at an approved education institution/ organisation in no more than 6 years.         
• Experience working within a team environment.
• A current drivers licence
• Proficient in the use of computer systems, particularly Microsoft Office suite.
   

Salary and Conditions The position is classified within Band 5 of Council’s Current Enterprise Agreement ranging from $75,461 to $86,603 per annum plus statutory superannuation.
