About the Smart Energy Council
The Smart Energy Council (SEC) is the peak body for the renewable energy industry. The SEC is a not-for-profit member-based organisation with the mission to work with and for our members and advocate with the government at all levels to promote the adoption and use of renewable energy technologies.
About the Role
If we are to achieve 82% renewable energy by 2030, the renewable energy sector must experience significant growth. As such, the industry’s peak body, the Smart Energy Council, is at the forefront of that growth. The opportunity has arisen for a motivated person to join our team. The SEC is highly regarded, particularly in the solar sector, but the opportunity for significant membership growth exists. We are seeking someone who will take ownership of the challenge and opportunity and is keen to prove themselves to assist taking the SEC to the next level of impact.
The Business Development Manager (Events) will find new opportunities, engage all of industry widely and repeatedly to drive events participation growth across all of SEC events. You will be limited only by your time. Creative thinking will not only be essential but will also be welcomed, unlike many other roles.
Duties and responsibilities
- Generate and follow up quality leads in all areas of the smart energy industry
- Cold outreach via all channels – email, phone, social media, etc.
- Manage inbound leads and drive them to event participation
- Create sector plans to execute for targeting different areas of our industry.
- Actively engage with potential customers and partners to maximise growth opportunities.
- Actively promote the brand and unique value proposition among industry, and community by attending and presenting at industry events, including trade fairs and conferences.
- Provide forecasts and achieve on target results.
- Developing long-term relationships with event customers through managing and interpreting their requirements.
- Cross selling as required to upsell memberships and other revenue activities to event participants.
- Manage the customer relationships to ensure we meet expectations for event participation
- Monitor industry trends and conduct competitor and industry market research and analysis.
- Develop plans and strategies to develop business and achieve the company’s sales goals.
Skills and experience
- Sound knowledge of the renewable energy industry is highly regarded.
- Previous successful sales experience (2+ years).
- Be self-motivated, have a genuine hunger for sales and achieving sales targets.
- A proven record of growing a portfolio of new clients, with success in closing new businesses.
- Excellent Sales Management, Business Development and relationship building skills.
- Previous experiences in renewable energy or membership services highly regarded.
- Business acumen and able to learn and understand technical and product aspects of an agile industry body.
- Applicant must have full work rights in Australia – Permanent residency or Australian Citizenship
- Applicants based in Brisbane are preferred, however, strong applicants from other Australian localities will be considered.
