Owners Corporation Network (OCN) is a not-for-profit organisation that helps strata property owners and residents navigate the complexities of strata living, from social and organisational challenges to financial and legal issues. Our current focus is NSW but we are in the process of expanding nationally.
Our members are strata owners, committees and owners corporations, small and large.
We are fiercely independent and not aligned with any commercial interest – what matters to a strata owner or resident is what matters most to us.
OCN has a small and dedicated team, mainly working part-time. We are well respected for punching well above our weight.
Primary purpose of the position
The Business Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and growth of the organisation within budget and consistent with the long-term outcomes defined by the board.
Key accountabilities
- Support the executive director by ensuring business processes and systems are operating correctly and as expected (including membership systems, CRM, website, member forum and board reporting).
- Prepare and track budgets, income and expenditure.
- Oversee and coordinate part-time staff responsible for marketing, member support and partner relationships. Ensure they have the resources they need.
- Seek and then manage available grant opportunities
- Support actions that grow and retain membership, sponsors and supporters.
- Continuous improvement of business and financial processes and systems.
- Manage OCN's contracted suppliers and service providers (including our key IT systems provider), ensuring deliverables and services meet contract terms and expectations.
- Coordinate the development and delivery of OCN’s annual operational plan, coordinated with our five year business plan.
- Coordinate organisation development including staff recruitment and training.
- Support the executive director in board secretariat functions.
Key challenges
Managing technology ongoing development: OCN has comprehensive content and educational material delivered though the OCN website and supporting platforms. The Business Operations Manager will need to ensure systems are meeting current needs, scaling and managing a programme to ensure future and developing needs are met.
Essential knowledge, skills and experience
- At least five years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in not-for-profit member-based organisations.
- Strong project management skills and experience in contract management, preferably gained with IT and/or web-based service providers.
- Self-sufficient and experienced working in and managing a small, dynamic team of part-time staff and volunteers.
- Demonstrated ability to take the initiative and problem solve in high-pressure situations and competing deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to get things done by influencing others and building trusting relationships.
- Experience with analysing business-related data, including budgets, to produce insights and to identify changes that will improve business systems and processes.
- Experience in building the capability of a dynamic workforce of part-time, casual staff and volunteers.
- Experience in working with web-based systems and processes, preferably with WordPress websites and plug-ins including MemberPress;WordPress and ActiveCampaign CRM.
- Tertiary qualification in any relevant field are desirable.
- Lived experience or demonstrated knowledge of strata living.
Other valuable skills
- As a small not-for-profit, any skills you bring to this role will be put to use. In particular, skills that reduce reliance on outside resources will be valued.
- We are also advertising for a new executive director. For the right candidate, key elements of the two roles could be merged into one, with other part-time staff or external contract support.
- Experience in or with local and state government, in particular in NSW.
This is a part-time employee or contractor role of approximately three days per week.
