So, what’s the role?

The Business Risk Partner plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and compliance of Bank First’s operations. The role involves overseeing the 1st line of defence in risk management and controls and managing the business unit/divisional risk profile. You will lead first line operational risk activities ensuring the Bank delivers its assurance work in a safe and sound way, helping to secure and enhance the financial wellbeing of our members and communities.

With extensive knowledge and experience in the Business Risk and Assurance space within retail/consumer banking, the incumbent will require an ability to coach, influence, educate and support the business and help build their knowledge and ownership of their risks. This role will also involve delivering strategic oversight, challenging and consulting on ad hoc risk assessments completed by the business to ensure the risk is well understood and assessed appropriately. 

This role offers hybrid working, but the desired candidate must be based in Melbourne.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Identify and assess risks associated with the business operations, products, and processes
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate these risks effectively
  • Execute the control framework established by Bank First, monitor and implement effectiveness of the control measures across the business.
  • Perform risk assessments of new initiatives and projects
  • Assist with incident management process including management of policies and procedures, educating business units and developing a reporting framework.
  • Identify, monitor and analyse breaches and incidents, associated impacts including assisting the business units in understanding root cause, identify systemic issues and path for remediation
  • Lead the risk and control assessment workshops and partner with the business to stand up and maintain their risk profiles
  • Analyse risk information for systemic issues and providing innovative ways to improve controls
  • Lead and support, in collaboration with business stakeholders, the development and embedding of regulatory policies as relevant to risk
  • Maintain the Bank First Risk Management System including regular reviews, workshop and analysis through ongoing education and awareness ensure the business complies with its risk controls, policies and procedures
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of risk culture and in maturing the 3 lines of defence model at the bank through collaboration and open communication with all business units.

The desired, Degree qualified candidate (in a relevant discipline) will need the following:

  • experience in retail/consumer banking Line 1 Risk management with the ability to analyse/identify risks and opportunities and recommend appropriate actions
  • Experience in Control design, development and testing within banking/finance
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence stakeholders of all levels, both internally and externally
  • Strong experience working with regulatory and compliance requirements for consumer lending
  • Familiarity with developments in the customer owned banking sector, regulatory and financial environments (desirable)
  • Demonstrated understanding of various regulatory obligations including Privacy Act, AML, Corporation Act, Banking code of Practice and NCC amongst others
