Appointment Pool

John Forrest Secondary College (SC) is seeking to establish a pool of Business Support Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2025.

John Forrest SC has an effective and efficient team of Allied Professional staff and is seeking experienced Business Support Officers who have the capacity to lead work practises and teams to provide outstanding service to our College community. 

The Business Support Officers at John Forrest SC work in collaboration with the Manager Corporate Services (MCS) to support all areas of college operations. Under the direction of the MCS, you should utilise your extensive experience to lead your team to ensure the smooth daily operation of the College in one or more of the following areas:

  • Human resource management, relief co-ordination, payroll, HRMIS and RAMS processing;
  • Management of facilities, buildings, maintenance, faults and minor works;
  • RM Finance and Billing, Cost Centre Budgets and Flexipurchase; and/or
  • Coordination of office functions and the provision of administrative support for the various systems used by the College including uploading student data to external agencies.

Business Support Officers are fundamental to the administrative operation of the college and ideally possess excellent interpersonal skills combined with the ability to work both in a team environment and autonomously. Suitable appliucants will ideally be able to effectively prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and work well under pressure with high level accuracy and attention to detail, with a willingness to be flexible and provide support with various college projects and operations.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Considerable experience providing input and effective support to the development, management, implementation and monitoring of business operations, systems and plans.
  • Well-developed financial management skills, including data analysis, interpretation and reporting, and the ability to provide recommendations.
  • Sound human resource management knowledge and skills, including the ability to provide effective support and input into the development, implementation and monitoring of human resource management systems.
  • Sound verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Sound conceptual, analytical, and problem solving skills and the ability to identify appropriate solutions.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
