Brief Description:

As the Business Unit Head (Neuroscience), you will be a key driver of our strategic vision and growth initiatives for the Neuroscience business in ANZ. You are accountable for delivering the sales and profitability targets for the Business Unit through effective leadership, setting strategic priorities, and execution of the preparation and launch plans to maximise Jazz’ presence in the Neuroscience market.

The role demands high levels of cross functional collaboration, customer orientation and a strong focus on driving alignment and execution of the preparation, launch and transition plans of the market in Australia.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy for the Neuroscience BU, aligning with global teams and corporate goals.
  • Lead the identification and pursuit of new business opportunities, and market expansion initiatives.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to align with ANZ strategy and objectives.
  • Develop and implement market access strategies to ensure successful product launches and market penetration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute effective commercialization plans, including marketing, sales, market access and medical affairs.
  • Collaborate and navigate the regulatory landscape and obtain and maintain necessary approvals for TGA, product development and commercialization.
  • Monitor key financial metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to drive profitability and sustainable growth.
  • Develop and implement effective risk management strategies and processes to mitigate identified risks.
  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and professional development.
  • Deploy a multi-pronged approach to engage key centers, thought leaders, patient societies/associations, and other stakeholders and influencers in the country of responsibility and ensure insights are captured into strategic plans along with trends and best practice.
  • Maintain a focus on operational improvements and efficiencies, cost control, revenue management, legal compliance, and human resource management.
  • Manage P&L and resources across the Business Unit.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven commercial success as a Business Unit Head, in similar healthcare sales and leadership roles over multiple distribution channels.
  • Ability to lead and drive digital marketing best practices in pharmaceutical environment.
  • Significant knowledge of the Australian health care environment including pricing / access
  • Extensive experience within a related therapeutic area (e.g., CNS)
  • Proven success launching new products, market shaping and launch readiness activities.
  • Ability to critically analyse complex data.
  • Clear and concise communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills
  • Strong inter-personal relationship building skills/collaboration and teamwork.

  • Expertise in therapeutic areas of neuroscience (types of prescribers, hospital MDT dynamics, patient pathways, treatment, current and developing competition, economic environment, reimbursement, distribution channels, etc.)

Strategic and tactical planning:

  • Develops the Business Unit strategy for Australia and New Zealand in conjunction with the Global teams to meet the expectations and needs of prescribers and patients.
  • Manages the national Business Unit marketing and sales team and be the interface between the various departments.
  • Leads the appropriate recruitment strategy where necessary.
  • Sets realistic and achievable targets and measures progress in line with allocated budgets.
  • Collaborate with Sales Force Effectiveness and business analytics teams to analyse various data sets.
  • Utilize data-based insights to review and, where necessary, amend strategy and tactics focus to mitigate risks and maximize opportunities.
  • Ensures specific needs of Australia and New Zealand are communicated to international teams to align strategy, plans and activities at all levels.
  • Assess market access challenges and in collaboration with General Manager and Access teams determine best strategy to ensure maximum access of our medicines to eligible patients.
  • Where appropriate, contributes to the pricing and reimbursement evaluation stages in conjunction with the Patient Access Value (PAV) Group market access teams.

Relations with Healthcare Professionals and Jazz teams:

  • Develop professional relationships with stakeholders (hospital Heads of Department in particular, reference establishments, Head Pharmacist, Global Marketing Department, PAV Department, Legal Department, Compliance Department, etc.).
  • Participates in scientific events in Neuroscience to maintain an optimum level of scientific knowledge, understand developments in therapeutic areas (competition) and meet external experts.
  • Collaborate with main scientific experts to understand the visions, challenges and developments in medical practices.

Duties relating to Compliance:

  • The BUD Neuroscience must give priority to patient safety and product quality by continuously complying with the Quality policy and all other quality processes and procedures documented by Jazz Pharmaceuticals.
  • Where appropriate, ensure that ANZ Neuroscience and Epilepsy specialist delegates are certified, that promotional material is used in accordance with local guidelines and policies and activity is regularly recorded in the CRM tool.
  • Ensure all necessary documents are obtained within the deadlines set to meet the obligations relating to filings associated with compliance both local and international.
  • Ensures the team understand and comply with the pharmacovigilance procedure relating to adverse events (AEs), and requests for medical information are properly managed.

Operational and managerial tasks:

  • Leads, coordinate, supervise and develop the BU team members in the Neuroscience therapeutic areas (annual appraisal interviews, annual and bi-annual reviews, personalized development plans, activities entered into the CRM tool, training, knowledge of current regulations/codes, etc.).
  • Implement and monitors the Neuroscience sales strategy, working closely with the other departments in Australia and International.
  • Establish and monitor sales targets and MBOs.
  • Liaise with supply team to ensure demand forecast is set and monitored monthly.
  • Ensure team is properly trained in the field of medicine, product(s), and related PBS criteria, so they can carry out their duties effectively with healthcare professionals.
    • Monitor, arbitrate and reallocate resources (human, financial, etc.) in line with strategy and results obtained.
    • Ensure marketing materials/tools used, and local events attended effectively support promotion and HCP educational needs.
    • Identify challenges that may have an impact on performance and take corrective action if necessary.
    • Ensure team complies with the internal performance management process (setting objectives, training plan, end-of-year review) and enters its activity into the CRM tool (sales team).
    • Manage, coach, and develop team.

Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

  • Holds a degree or higher demonstrating a high level of business acumen.
  • Knowledge of and experience of the pharmaceutical industry and the health environment.
  • Additional science background advantageous.

Description of Physical Demands

  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, project) and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Proficiency remote communication tools. (e.g. Zoom, Teams).
  • Responsibilities will require working outside Australian business hours from time to time to meet business demands
