Butcher Wanted: Quast Turkey Farm Seeks Skilled Professional
Quast Turkey Farm, a leader in the turkey industry for over 60 years, is looking for an experienced butcher to join our team. Located in Tintinhull, NSW, our family run farm prioritises the highest levels of animal welfare and quality in our products. Position: Butcher (Full-Time)
Location: Tintinhull, NSW, Australia
Salary Range: $70,000-$72,000 per year plus superannuation
About the Role:
We are seeking professionals who have a strong background in meat processing, including slaughtering, cutting, trimming, and preparing meat according to industry standards. The ideal candidates will have experience ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of butchery areas and equipment to meet health and safety regulations, along with a proven ability to manage inventory and optimise stock levels.
Responsibilities:
- Selecting and preparing turkey meat to produce smallgoods.
- Removing bones, trimming excess fat, and ensuring turkey cuts are to
shape and size for display or as ordered.
- Perform precise cutting, trimming, and preparation of turkey, ensuring
high product quality.
- Advise customers on the suitability and uses of cuts of meat.
- Operate machines to grind, mix, mince and tenderise meat.
- Make seasonings by mixing spices, salt and other ingredients.
- Operate sausage filling machines, smoking chambers, and cooking
kettles and vats.
- Maintain rigorous standards of hygiene and safety in the processing area.
- Manage inventory efficiently to ensure freshness and minimise waste.
- May assist in menu planning and scheduling, and in estimating food
production costs.
Requirements:
- At least 2 years of experience in a butchery role, with a comprehensive
understanding of meat types, cuts, and preparation techniques.
- Proficiency in using a variety of butchery tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of and adherence to health and safety regulations in the non-
red meat industry.
- Demonstrate strength and stamina across all skill areas within the plant,
as necessary.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and maintain calm
under pressure.
- Preparedness to work overtime if the need arises.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a strong focus on
product quality assurance.
- Up to date knowledge and understanding of the current WHS guidelines.
- Certificate to operate a forklift.
- License to drive a truck.
- Understand, and adhere to, the business HACCP plan.
