Cadet Journalist-Full time
Our weekly newspaper, Whyalla News, is seeking an enthusiastic, community minded individual to join our team as a Cadet Journalist. The position is full-time based in Whyalla and presents an eager individual the opportunity to flourish as a journalist in regional news media.
The Whyalla News forms part of the newly formed, independent and family owned company, SA Today. We pride ourselves on quality journalism and strong community connection with a commitment to providing an inspiring, creative workplace, and career that is rewarding and supportive of work life balance.
The successful applicant will be responsible for gathering and compiling news stories and photographs for the print and digital newspaper platforms.
Key Accountabilities:
• News reporting as assigned by the Editor
• News gathering by phone and face-to-face with clients
• Feature and special publication writing
• Maintain a positive relationship with stakeholders and customers
• Participate in planning and team meetings
• Proof reading with a focus on accuracy
While experience with newspaper writing skills and photography knowledge is desirable, we are highly interested in someone who has strong community knowledge and connections.
Essential Qualifications:
Current driver’s licence
SACE
Desirable but not essential:
Previous reporting and writing experience
Bachelor degree in journalism
