Job description

Do you have a flair for writing and a focus on serving the community? Murray Bridge News is looking for a journalist at 0.6 FTE on a nine-month contract. Applications close on March 22, 2024.

About us

Murray Bridge News is an independent, family-owned news service based in South Australia's Murraylands. We publish stories about what’s happening locally in a weekly email edition, online and via digital signage in the community. We also publish a quarterly magazine, Murraylands Life.

Our mission is to:

  • Create community by sharing local stories
  • Empower local people to engage with community groups, events and opportunities
  • Be positive about the region and its future
  • Be local: collaborate with and advocate for local people, and be present in the community
  • Guarantee a local news service that is ethical, accessible and sustainable

Murray Bridge News co-owner and managing editor Peri Strathearn is an award-winning journalist who has lived and reported the news in the Murraylands since 2012.

About you

You want to use your skills to serve the community.

You can strike up conversations with people from all walks of life, understand and articulate their points of view, and build relationships with them over time. You're a quick learner who can follow directions and take the initiative when needed. You hit your deadlines. You're trustworthy and easy to get along with.

  • Interview people, and keep an accurate record of interviews
  • Find, assess and use sources of information
  • Build relationships with local contacts and the community at large
  • Work independently, managing competing priorities and deadlines
  • Assist the managing editor as required, including at public events
  • Work safely, ethically and in accordance with Murray Bridge News' mission
  • Be professional, upholding Murray Bridge News' reputation in the community at all times

Requirements
