Job description

We are looking for an exceptional Cancer Support Services Manager to fill this exciting position. You will be working in the city of Darwin however will have opportunities to travel and work remotely as well. If you love helping people who appreciate you being there for them in trying times, then this top end adventure is for you. This position will suit an Enrolled Nurse, Registered Nurse or Social Worker with exceptional experience dealing with patients in a patient centered care environment. 

Purpose:

  • To provide counselling, information and support to Territory cancer patients.
  • To manage the ongoing development and implementation of CCNT Support Service programs, and to meet the varying needs of cancer patients, their carers and family.
  • As per the Northern Territory Government agreement, provide backup services to BreastScreen NT as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake thorough client needs assessment and provide counselling, information, advocacy and referral to Territory cancer patients.
  • Work collaboratively with the Alan Walker Cancer Care Centre, Royal Darwin Hospital, Palmerston, Katherine and Alice Springs Hospitals to facilitate the continuum of care through screening, assessment and treatment.
  • Collaborate with members of the Alan Walker Cancer Care Centre and Breast Screen NT multidisciplinary teams and relevant community service providers to coordinate the delivery of specialized Support Services to patients and their families,
  • Provide specialized care, information, education and support to clients effected by cancer in accordance with evidence based clinical practice guidelines. 
  • Provide leadership on evidence-based services to nursing staff and other members of our multidisciplinary team, including evidence-based knowledge to external health care providers,
  • Work collaboratively with other members of Cancer Council NT and the Cancer Council Federation in pursuit of the overall organizational mission and to ensure consistent delivery of all Cancer Council NT programs.
  • Work with the CEO to develop a comprehensive strategic approach to the provision of Cancer Support programs for people with cancer and those affected by a cancer diagnosis.
  • Oversee development, implementation and assessment of programs specifically designed to support people affected by cancer particularly in areas of unmet needs.
  • Oversee the delivery of policy and procedures to ensure they are in line with CCNT and Cancer Council Australia guidelines.
  • Represent and present on behalf of CCNT at meetings, events and seminars as appropriate.
  • Ensure the management of accurate data collection for analysis and reporting on all Cancer Support Services activities.
  • Establish and maintain close working relationships with key stakeholders in the cancer arena both locally i.e. government, non-government organizations and the Cancer Council federation.
  • Ensure members of the Support Services team in all NT locations are adequately trained and supported in the performance of their role through effective leadership and workplace relations. Manage change and day to day issues as they arise.
  • Work within budgetary requirements and conduct activities in accordance with Cancer Council NT policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Knowledge and Skills

  • A confident self-starter who demonstrates initiative, a solution-orientated approach, and an ability to learn new skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of, implementation and evaluation of specific programs.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work and perform daily tasks efficiently and within deadlines.
  • High level of communication skills both verbal and written, along with the ability to work unsupervised and with excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • High level leadership experience managing a small team in a diverse and demanding environment. 
  • Sound stakeholder engagement, excellent verbal communication skills and demonstrated experience in working with patients and clients.
  • Willingness to undergo wig and breast form fitting training and qualifications or a willingness to undergo Breast Care certification training. 
  • Understanding of issues around cancer and maintain a high level of clinical expertise and knowledge through participation in ongoing education and professional development activities. 
  • Critically appraise and integrate relevant research findings and other developments in decision making about oncology and Cancer Support Services
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, with demonstrated experience in data collection, input and reporting using database applications.

Essential

  • At least 3 years relevant post graduate experience working directly with patients.
  • NT Drivers License

Desirable

  • Current Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board (Enrolled or Registered) Qualification or experience in Oncology nursing.
  • Counselling training/qualifications.
  • Experience working with volunteers

This role will provide you with challenges and accountability whilst working in a supportive and friendly environment. 

There will be evening & weekend work and may be intrastate and interstate travel with this position.
