Munno Para Primary School want its students to enjoy food and their break times. We need our canteen to be clean and safe. We want students to see it is a welcoming and valued place.
Role/Position Overview
- Canteen Manager
- 28hours /fortnight during term time only (41 weeks per year)
- Times of work are 8.30 am to 12.00 pm
Award
- The Canteen Manager is employed under the Fast-Food Award for 2020
- Remuneration and working entitlements applicable will be as per the relevant employment award
- A cleared Working with Children check is required before employment begins and as requested during employment
Qualification & Competencies Required
- Manage the canteen area and support the volunteer canteen helpers
- Prepare food and clean up in the canteen
- Make sure fridges are stocked and ready to go at break times
- Sell food at break times
- Knowledge of current safe food handling and food safety rules are met
- Store chemicals and kitchen utensils safely
- Prepare and check rosters for volunteer helpers and help to induct new volunteers
- Make sure the canteen is a friendly and positive place
Expected Outcomes
- Manage the canteen area and support the volunteer canteen helpers
- Prepare food and clean up in the canteen
- Reconcile QKR and cash sales and take money to the school office
- Restock the canteen and make sure fridges are stocked and ready to go at break times
- Sell food at break times
- Prepare and check rosters for volunteer helpers and help to induct new volunteers
- Make sure the canteen is a friendly and positive place
- Canteen pricing ensures canteen runs at a profit
- Ensure that annual stocktakes and other records are maintained
Reporting Structures
- The Munno Para Primary School Governing Council supports the school by employing the incumbent
- The incumbent is responsible and accountable to the Principal (or delegate)
OHS&W
- Ensure staff (volunteers) compliance with all relevant safety legislation, policy and guidelines
- Contribute to the achievement of safe work practices through planning, resource allocation, reporting and leading by example
- Take the responsibility to read and understand the relevant information
- Take reasonable care to protect their safety and others’ safety in the workplace and avoid adversely affecting the health, safety and welfare of any other person through any act or omission, neglect or misconduct at work
- Report any accidents or hazards to the line manager
- Obey any reasonable instruction that the employer may give in relation to health or safety at work
- Make sure all food handling and food safety rules are met
- Store chemicals and kitchen utensils safely
Essential
- Working with Children Check
- Possession of a First Aid Certificate (or willing to undertake)
- Responding to Risk, of Harm, Abuse and Neglect in Education and Care (RRHAN-EC)
- National Police clearance
Skills and abilities
The successful applicant will have the ability to:
- Work effectively under pressure and work as a member of a team and as a team leader
- Monitor activities to ensure a well organised canteen
- Be welcoming, open, flexible, cooperative and trustworthy
- Communicate effectively with staff, parents, students, volunteers and sales representatives
Knowledge
The successful applicant will have an understanding of:
- Food preparation and nutrition
- Sound business practices, including stock control & liaison with suppliers
- Understanding of hygienic food handling practice & Department of Education Healthy Food Guidelines
- OHS&W issues related to canteens and worker supervision
Experience
The successful applicant will have experience in:
- Working cooperatively with a range of people
- Handling and accounting of cash takings
- Preparing food
