Canteen Assistant Manager Description
Henley Beach Primary School (Reception to Year 6) has a strong sense of community in which parents, staff and students work together to ensure our school environment is focused on every child being successful and connected to their learning. The school currently has 14 classes which includes a Reception to Year 2 special needs class for students with an identified learning disability.
The Governing Council of Henley Beach is seeking a collaborative and hard-working person with strong communication and organisation skills to fulfil the role of Assistant Canteen Manager.
Your role will include working in partnership with other staff, including the Canteen Manager, casual employees and volunteers, to prepare food, order taking, over the counter sales and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The canteen has a strong focus on providing healthy ‘home-made’ meals that are prepared in the canteen.
Hours:
This is a part time position (approximately 12 hours per week) working Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 2.00pm, 42 weeks per annum across an agreed roster that meets the needs of the service. Please note that part time and flexible arrangements will be considered.
Responsibilities:
As Canteen Assistant Manager, you'll play a vital role in supporting the smooth operation of our canteen. Your responsibilities will involve working in collaboration with the Canteen Manager in various tasks, including:
- Food preparation, cooking, and serving.
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in the canteen area.
- Providing excellent customer service to students and staff.
- Contribute to menu planning and pricing.
- Handling cash transactions and maintaining accurate records.
- Helping with inventory management and restocking supplies.
- Supporting school events during the year which may include after-hours work commitments.
Qualifications and Position Criteria:
- Previous experience in a school canteen or a cook in a food preparation environment.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn, possess a positive attitude and have the ability to work with school staff, parents, volunteers and students is essential.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and work unsupervised.
- Knowledge of various ICT platforms including Excel and Qkr.
- Provide a current Working with Children Check clearance and Food Handling Certificate (preferred).
Training will be provided as needed to the successful applicant.
