Casual Academic Staff 
Education & Enabling

Openings are available both in Darwin for face-to-face opportunities and Australia-wide for marking/online opportunities. 

Expressions of Interest are being sought for qualified Casual Academic Staff for a range of casual opportunities in 2024 within the Education and Enabling Discipline of the Faculty of Art’s and Society. 

Casual Academic Staff make a rich and important contribution to the Faculty’s academic, teaching and research endeavours through the provision of a range of academically focused services and activities. Casual Academic staff may be engaged to fulfil a wide range of duties, including (but not limited to) lecturing; tutoring; marking; teaching; moderating/facilitating and/or student advising; across the Education and Enabling academic areas.  

We are seeking qualified casual staff for casual lecturing, tutoring and marking work across the following areas taught in the Discipline: 
Education: Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education across all specialisations (Science, Technology, Mathematics, Literacy, Indigenous Knowledges, Professional Experience, Arts, English, LOTE, Humanities, Health).
Linguistics: TESOL, General Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, First Nations languages.
Enabling: Academic Language and Learning, Mathematics, Bioscience, Technology and Study Skills, and Humanities.


These are Casual Academic appointments. Casual Academic Staff are paid according to the category of their duties, as detailed in CDU’s Enterprise Agreement. The casual rate will vary depending on the type of work completed. Please view our various Casual Academic pay scales.

Initial tutorial and marking hours are based upon expected enrolment figures, which often fluctuate in the first few weeks of semester. After census date, all marking is reassessed using census enrolment figures, which means that your allocated hours for marking may increase or decrease depending on the number of students allocated to you at the time the marking is undertaken.
All Casual Academic Staff who are employed are expected to undertake teaching require a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check before they commence work. 

To be considered for this role, you must possess a relevant postgraduate qualification or higher in a related field and proven experience in a similar role is required for these roles. 

Once you've submitted your expression of interest, you should receive an acknowledgement of receipt email. The information that you provide will be kept for a maximum period of 12 months (the academic year). Applications will be held in our Casual Academic register and will be viewable by unit coordinators.

When an opportunity arises, you may be contacted by the unit coordinator to discuss your expression of interest.

Following agreement between both parties, employment documentation will be emailed to you for completion and signing.

Once documentation is submitted, you will receive confirmation of employment from the Faculty.

Please note, an expression of interest does not guarantee that you will be employed as a Casual Academic Staff member.

Please note that you must have working rights in Australia. Overseas applications cannot be considered.
