As a Casual Lecturer in the Accounting Department at the UTS Business School, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality education and fostering student success. This position offers an exciting opportunity to share your expertise and passion for Accounting or Business Analytics with students, helping them develop the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the industry.
Responsibilities
Deliver engaging lectures and tutorials on various topics within Accounting OR Business Analytics, including:
- Accounting
- Accounting Foundations: purpose of accounting, accounting information, accounting systems, accounting transactions and financial statements.
- Management Accounting: Enhancing profitability and business success, management control systems, reporting, strategies, problem solving, forecasting, accounting and business practices for profitability and long term business success.
- Financial Accounting: Reporting and analysis, financial recording and reporting systems, profit and loss, cash flow statements, balance sheets, financial statements, budgeting
- Business Analytics
- Business Analytics Foundations: data manipulation, data visualisation, statistical analysis, and predictive modelling
- Financial Analysis for Decision Making: financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, ratio, cost, and investment analysis using tools like Tableau
- Financial Analytics: applying data analytics techniques to derive insights from financial data
- Data Governance and Regulation: legal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks governing data collection, use, and management
- Across both Accounting and Business Analytics
- Implement effective teaching strategies and materials to enhance student learning and understanding
- Facilitate discussions, group activities, and practical exercises to encourage active participation and critical thinking among students
- Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments, assessments, and student progress to support their academic development
- Collaborate with colleagues and academic staff to foster curriculum development and ways to improve the subjects
- Stay current with industry trends and practices in Accounting to ensure the delivery of relevant and up-to-date content to students
Skills and experience
- Strong knowledge and expertise in Accounting or Business Analytics, including proficiency in one or more industry-standard tools/software like Excel, Tableau, SQL, or Python, Xero, MYOB, SAP
- Work experience in Accounting or Business Analytics, finance, demonstrating a sustained commitment to the field
- Demonstrated currency of knowledge in Accounting or Business Analytics through active participation in relevant professional development activities, networks, or communities of practice
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, evidenced by the ability to effectively engage and motivate students, fostering active participation and collaboration in the learning process
- Previous teaching or tutoring experience in business or data analytics-related subjects is advantageous, with a focus on facilitating meaningful learning experiences
- Proven ability to articulate complex concepts and information clearly and concisely, ensuring accessibility and understanding for all students
- Dedication to cultivating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, promoting diversity, equity, and respect among students and colleagues alike
Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in Accounting, Business Analytics, Finance, or a related field
- Relevant industry certifications, such as CPA, CA or Business Analytics certifications, are desirable
