About the role
The Category Merchandise Planner is responsible for overseeing the financial performance of a business category portfolio and across multiple categories. This role entails managing diverse stakeholders and their priorities, demanding a blend of leadership, robust business insight, and analytical prowess.
The responsibilities for this role include:

• Collaborate with Category Managers to develop and execute Category Merchandise strategies aligned with company goals and customer preferences.
• Lead category planning processes encompassing budgeting, forecasting, reporting, critical path management, range reviews, buy plans, and clearance support within merchandise.
• Manage financial performance for the Business Category portfolio through budget preparation, forecasting, range analysis, supplier assessment, and effective management of net realizable value provision.
• Proactively trade in-season with Category Managers, implementing plans to address budget shortfalls and taking a lead role in critical path processes and active range management during seasonal events.
• Influence sourcing and distribution strategies in partnership with Category and Inventory teams, driving strategic decisions.
• Conduct comprehensive analytics and reporting to support merchandise planning, budgeting, landed cost review, range documentation, and promotional monitoring.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure end-to-end processes develop, implement, and review category plans meeting customer needs effectively.
• Uphold compliance with pricing and promotions by maintaining a solid understanding of relevant legislation.
• Demonstrate extensive knowledge of category management and implement best practices for optimal outcomes.

Our ideal candidate would have the following experience/attributes:

• Several years' experience in a merchandise planning position with a deep understanding of merchandise planning metrics
• Experience in the retail industry, with an understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements
• Proficient understanding of inventory management processes
• Strong analytical skills to analyse and simplify insights, finding creative solutions meeting KPIs
• Ability to self-manage and have a high level of autonomy, while being an integral team member
• Perseverance and resilience to manage setbacks and work within a fast-paced environment
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable, managing change and work in ambiguous situations
• Ability to simplify complex financial information to pull out the key points and communicate these to different stakeholders
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to juggle priorities while delivering exceptional work within the required timeframes
• Knowledge of and ability to be proficient in using Microsoft suite and common systems

Education/Qualifications:

• Tertiary qualification (Business, Financial, Procurement, Marketing or Retail)
