Our client is a member of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation and won a gold award at the 2023 Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design Awards (PIDA), which saw the Australian Institute of Packaging recognise one of its sustainable packaging solutions for being carbon neutral. The innovative incorporation of biopolymers into high-barrier films for food packaging, lowers energy consumption during production and ensures the packaging is recyclable.
THE ROLE
Our client requires a Chemist or Chemical Engineer to undertake product testing and analysis supporting Production, New Product Development and Process Development projects.
The role shall involve working as a member of the Technology Team to ensure all products meet the required technical specifications, which includes coordinating the testing needed for new material/product qualification. This may extend to conducting pilot-scale trials to evaluate the commercial viability of new materials and processes.
This initial six-month contract through CS Executive Group has significant potential to lead to a permanent position with our client, which will involve ongoing collaboration with members of the R&D and Quality teams.
Main Responsibilities Include:
- Assist in conducting testing associated with new process and material qualification trials
- Develop new testing procedures and prepare standard operating procedures for them
- Analyse testing results and trends to enable process and quality improvement
- Prepare trial plans, including processing conditions and testing & qualification requirements
- Conduct physical testing of production samples to ensure key quality criteria are met
- Ensure new products and processes have the required Technical, Quality, and Regulatory approvals
- Assist in data entry and administration of the Quality System
SELECTION CRITERIA
Our client is seeking a hands-on person with a structured and analytical approach to problem-solving. Someone with a positive, optimistic attitude who gets on well with people at all levels and is keen to learn and improve.
Additionally, having a qualification or experience within a food testing environment (chemical or microbiological) would be seen as complementary to our client's commercial interests.
When applying for this exciting opportunity you are asked to consider the following selection criteria:
- Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Food Technology or a Diploma in Applied Chemistry
- Relevant industrial experience in a similar role (1–5 years)
- Knowledge and understanding of polymer processing (i.e., extrusion, blow moulding, thermoforming, etc)
- Familiarity with test methods used in material testing (e.g., FTIR, DSC, tensile, impact, microscopy etc)
- Experience using TGA would be well regarded but not mandatory
- Strong computer competency (e.g., Excel, Matlab, etc) to assist you in documenting results and updates
- Capability to document work, data, and findings in a professional manner
- Interpersonal skills that facilitate communication, cooperation, and collaboration with others
