Job description

Let’s introduce ourselves

We’re a venture-scaler powered by CommBank. That means we build, buy, and invest in startups that could benefit the bank’s 15 million customers and beyond.

Because of what we do, we’re really neither corporate, nor startup – instead we’re happily navigating the space between both worlds. We're close enough to benefit from the bank’s strategy, scale, and stability, but separate enough that we have the autonomy to try new things.

What it’s like to work here

We’re a community of galvanisers, thinkers, and doers. People from different backgrounds who come together in a brilliant collision of careers, ideas, and expertise. We know what we’re trying to achieve isn’t easy, but we're up for the challenge.

We're also part of something bigger. As part of CommBank, we never lose sight of the impact we can have on people’s lives, and the role that each of us plays in shaping the bank of the future.

We’re guided by three values: care, courage, and commitment.

This means we're led by both head and heart. We’re aware, attuned, and always act to help others. We’re more than just job titles and we don’t hide the human stuff, either.

We lead with grit and grace. We have a big bold vision, which so far no-one has nailed (including us). That excites, rather than deters us.  And whatever happens, we always find a way. We're tenacious, resilient and we do what's right – even if it's hard.

Where would you fit?

x15’s mission is underpinned by our Core Platform – an operating environment where empowered people and modern technology can collectively enable start-up pace, enterprise safety, and scale through integrations with CommBank.  It currently fuels our ventures throughout their lifecycle, but this platform is only at its infancy – the journey ahead is new, ambitious, and exciting.

To help map out this journey, we have recently created an x15 Core team under x15’s Chief Technology Officer. This team will ensure our overall technical strategy and roadmap is being effectively determined, communicated, and delivered into real outcomes for our ventures.

We’re interested in hearing from people who

  • Come from a strong software engineering background including operations

  • Participate in and influence the technology strategy and processes, engineering practice, and workplace and HR functions

  • Deliver key initiatives that dramatically improve technical and practice capabilities

  • Building a centre of excellence, a practice, of using modern tech stack and help ventures to speed up their operations

  • Bring specialists skill sets – development environments, deep technical understanding, expertise and skills in specialist software development areas

  • Maintain deep technical skills, including hands on software engineering and operations

  • Have a clear understanding of the operational aspects, risk and cost drivers of our technical landscape and can effectively improve upon them supported by data and metrics

  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct sets the standards of behaviour, actions and decisions we expect from our people.

  • Exercise sound judgement with a risk mindset – All x15 employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks

Technical Skills Required

This is a highly technical role, requiring a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks.

You’ll be a good match if you have previous experience in:

  • Developing 3-tier application both on-premises and on cloud covering: Frontend: Typescript, JavaScript, React, Nextjs, Backend: Nodejs, Azure, Database: Postgres.

  • Microservices design and implementation of scalable and secure APIs.

  • Scripting/programming languages (e.g. JavaScript, TypeScript).

  • CI/CD tools (e.g. GitHub, Gitlab, TeamCity, Jenkins).

  • Knowledge of containerization tools - Docker, EKS, ECS

  • Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform).

  • Knowledge of automation tools – Jenkins CICD, Puppet, Ansible, Chef.

  • Code quality control through peer programming, code review and automated pipeline release management.

  • Mentor and coach team members, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning

  • Configuration management.

What’s in it for you?

At x15, we’re building ventures in a way that’s never been done before. Part of pioneering a new way of working means there’ll be ambiguity, experimentation and limitless opportunity. This will invigorate you.

We promise challenge in spades but believe this delivers intellectual stretch, growth, learning, and development. Working on things you’re truly passionate about, you’ll be exposed to big decision making and your work and actions will be on display.

Some benefits to keep in mind:

  • We offer flexible work options to support your well-being in the role

  • We pay generous equal parental leave - understanding there’s more to life than work

  • We celebrate an authentic team culture and promote collaboration, innovation and general mucking in

  • You can choose your own adventure, with amazing development and career progression programs to help you grow

  • We support hybrid working and have a beautiful base at South Eveleigh - a brand new state-of-the-art precinct that is part of Sydney’s wider technology community

We value a diverse range of backgrounds and ideas and know this is fundamental for our future success.

So, if you have the curiosity to learn and the willingness to teach what you know, we’d love to hear from you.

If you're already part of the Commonwealth Bank Group (including Bankwest, x15ventures), you'll need to apply through Sidekick to submit a valid application. We’re keen to support you with the next step in your career.

We're aware of some accessibility issues on this site, particularly for screen reader users. We want to make finding your dream job as easy as possible, so if you require additional support please contact HR Direct on 1800 989 696.
