About Noosa Council:

The Noosa Shire Council is a dynamic local government authority located on the popular Sunshine Coast region of Queensland. The Role of CEO:

Reporting directly to the Mayor and Council, the CEO of Noosa Shire Council is a pivotal leadership position responsible for driving the strategic direction and operational effectiveness of the organisation. As the principal advisor to Council, the CEO will provide exceptional leadership, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability within the council. With a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and community empowerment, the CEO will champion the values and priorities of Noosa Shire Council, ensuring alignment with the aspirations and needs of the residents, businesses, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to achieve the objectives outlined in the Noosa Council Corporate Plan, in alignment with legislative requirements and community expectations;
  • Foster a culture of excellence, inclusivity, and integrity within the organisation, promoting a collaborative and high-performing work environment;
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with Councillors, key stakeholders, and community groups, advocating for the interests of Noosa and facilitating meaningful engagement and participation;
  • Oversee the development and implementation of sound governance practices, financial management strategies, and risk mitigation measures to safeguard the interests of Noosa Council and its constituents;
  • Lead the delivery of key projects and initiatives that support sustainable growth, economic development, and environmental stewardship, ensuring responsible management of resources and assets; and
  • Serve as a passionate ambassador for Noosa Shire Council, representing the organisation at local, regional, and national forums, and advocating for policies and initiatives that advance the interests of our community.

Experience & Skills:

  • Proven CEO Experience: A track record of successful leadership as a CEO or in an equivalent senior executive role, preferably within local government or a comparable complex organisation;
  • Local Council Experience: Extensive experience working within a local government context, with a strong understanding of the legislative framework, governance structures, and service delivery requirements specific to municipal councils;
  • Exposure to Local Infrastructure Environment: Demonstrated experience in overseeing service delivery within a local infrastructure environment, including but not limited to transportation, utilities, waste management, and community facilities;
  • Financial and Human Resources Management: Proficiency in managing both financial and human resources efficiently to achieve strategic objectives, including budgeting, financial planning, workforce development, and performance management; and
  • Innovative Revenue-Generation: Adeptness in identifying and pursuing innovative revenue- generation opportunities to support the financial sustainability and long-term viability of Noosa Shire Council, while maintaining a balanced approach to fiscal responsibility.

  • Strategic Thinking: A strategic mindset with the ability to think analytically, anticipate future trends and challenges, and develop proactive strategies to position Noosa Shire Council as a leader in local government excellence;
  • Adaptability and Resilience: Flexibility and resilience in navigating complex and evolving political, economic, and social environments, while maintaining focus on long-term objectives and outcomes; and
  • Ethical Integrity: Unwavering commitment to ethical conduct, transparency, and integrity in all aspects of decision-making and leadership, ensuring accountability and public trust in Noosa Council's governance and operations.

Overwhelmingly, the ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive blend of executive leadership experience, a deep understanding of local government operations, and a demonstrated commitment to preserving the unique appeal of the region.
