The Opportunity
Are you a professionally qualified CEO who has recent experience managing a Council of a comparable size or larger to Cairns? If so, Cairns Regional Council are looking to appoint an Interim CEO for approximately 3-6 months whilst they recruit the Permanent appointment.

As one of the region’s largest employers, with approximately 1250 staff they deliver an extensive range of community services to foster social well-being, including grants, programs and activities for young people, multicultural information and community safety services and programs. With a budget (2022/2023) of more than $433 million operating and $164.8 million capital expenditure the Council is a significant local economic driver.
The Role
Council is seeking to appoint a community focused leader to drive the organisation forward on a trajectory of enhanced operational performance to ultimately deliver superior outcomes and services to the community albeit on an Interim basis.
Reporting to and working closely with Council, you will embed yourself within the community and lead an action orientated approach for Council that will contribute to the region's prosperity and manage the resources of Council effectively and efficiently ensuring sustainable performance is underpinned by a high level of service delivery and evidence of a positive and engaged workforce.
About You
Renowned for your strong leadership you will have a warm and engaging personality and the wisdom and empathy to deal with people from all walks of life and abilities up to the highest levels of Council.
As a LG Professional with a track record of working at CEO level you will have the right combination of talent and energy underpinned by a commitment to effective and transparent communication. The position will suit an effective and decisive leader with proven commercial acumen, highly developed stakeholder engagement skills and who has a strong focus on the benefit this role will bring to the community.
With a start date from late May/early June, your initial focus will be finalising the budget process, applying rigour and accountability to major projects, and ensuring communication is improved both internally and externally.
