South Australia’s largest legal assistance provider is seeking to appoint an innovation driven Chief Executive Officer (Director) to lead the organisation.
This rare and exciting opportunity, focused on client service and an unwavering commitment to the South Australian community, has become available due to the retirement of the current Chief Executive Officer (Director) Ms Gabrielle Canny after 12 years in the role.
Organisation Overview
The Legal Services Commission (Legal Services) is an independent statutory authority providing legal assistance to South Australians. As the largest legal assistance service in SA, Legal Services offers a range of services, including legal information, advice, education, dispute resolution and legal representation in the areas of family law, criminal law and civil law. This includes an in-house legal practice of 120 legal practitioners plus a scheme of legal assistance delivering services to South Australians through 520 external panel legal practitioners.
Role Overview
Responsible to the Commission, this role has eight direct reports and overall responsibility for all legal, professional, and administrative staff and service delivery. Other roles include fostering strong relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders such as State and Federal Courts, Commonwealth and State Governments and Agencies and National Legal Aid, media, and public events. The CEO provides expert strategic direction to develop, lead and implement the organisation’s Strategic Plan, whilst also overseeing the financial integrity of the Legal Services Fund.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience
Exceptional leadership abilities, fostering collaboration and cohesive teamwork, alongside strong ethical principles are critical for this position. The candidate must have the ability to manage multiple complex projects along with excellent financial management and communication skills; as well as able to develop and implement constructive and innovative policies within a legal service environment. A strategic understanding of the South Australian and Commonwealth justice framework is essential. Tertiary qualifications in either law, accounting, business, finance, or other related disciplines are required.
