Based in Macquarie Park, Smartcrete CRC is an independent for-impact Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) under the Australian Government's CRC Program that empowers innovation collaborations to transition concrete for a sustainable Australia.
Bringing together manufacturers, architects, engineers, developers, asset owners and government, Smartcrete CRC invest $21m of Commonwealth funding in university-delivered R&D projects that spur sustainable design, use and management of concrete. Smartcrete CRC connects Australia's concrete ecosystem, creating research opportunities and setting up mutually beneficial partnerships that accelerate material change, develop new technologies and promote best practice to decarbonise concrete and achieve net zero by 2050.
About the role
The Chief Finance Officer (CFO) will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional wanting to go beyond the numbers. This role requires experience in complex contract management, a deep understanding of compliance and the ability to build strong relationships across a variety of stakeholders. This is a key appointment to join a small, collaborative, high-performing team where values and fit will be crucial.
The position will be responsible for leading and managing the corporate activities of the business, with responsibility for the company's financial, legal, employment and contractual affairs. The CFO will deputise for the CEO when required.
Working with Smartcrete CRC staff, the Smartcrete CRC's Participant organisations, and the Australian Government this role is a unique opportunity to play your part in the drive to a sustainable Australia through the transition of concrete.
About you
We are searching for an experienced CA/CPA qualified CFO who is inquisitive, driven, interested and motivated. You will be ambitious and curious by nature, displaying exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong strategic capabilities, and sound commercial acumen. As a flexible team player, you will be an all-rounder willing to support and cover responsibilities across the small team when required, and open to using innovative systems to improve organisational efficiency.
The successful candidate will have, extensive accounting and contract management experience, a good working knowledge of national funding schemes and grant requirements, practical skills in research program and project systems, the confidence and knowledge to have robust, respectful conversations at the board level and experience of CRC operations would be favourable. Exceptional negotiation skills, attention to detail and a critical thinker and problem solver with a genuine interest in the projects undertaken by the organisation are also critical to success in this role.
The CFO is a member of the senior leadership team, reports to the CEO and will hold accountability and responsibility for:

• Financial Management, budget oversight and reporting
• Management of complex contracts and funding arrangements
• Participates on the Company's Finance, Audit & Risk Management Committee and Investment committee.
• Management of all aspects of people and systems
• Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
