Position Overview:

As the Chief Remote Pilot for RocketDNA you will oversee all aspects of the company’s drone and safety operations. This involves effectively and safely managing flight operations on RocketDNA sites, as well as within the company’s remote operating centres. 

As CRP you will ensure that all other pilots and RocketDNA flight systems are compliant, safe and efficient at all times. The role requires strong leadership and management abilities, with a willingness to travel and to engage professionally with various stakeholders across the industry. 

We also understand that what we do is both unique and cutting-edge, in terms of a technology and regulatory setting, and will provide the necessary training and guidance to ensure a positive start to your career at RocketDNA.

Location:

RocketDNA is based in both Adelaide (Parafield) and Perth (Subiaco). Our preference would be for a candidate to be based in either of these 2 cities, although we would consider a WFH arrangement with monthly visits to each of our offices for applicants applying from outside WA & SA.

Key Duties include 

  • Be our interface with CASA, with regards to all our regulatory and safety requirements and be prepared to lead practical and desktop-based demonstrations
  • Be our SMS lead and responsible for overall Workplace Health & Safety (WHS)
  • Develop both standard and specialised operating procedures for drone operations and ensure adherence by the team, 
  • On-going maintenance and updates of the Operations Manual
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant Australian drone regulations and obtain necessary safety approvals and authorizations for each project.
  • Submit and manage all paperwork and compliance, as required in the management of the ReOC and other regulatory frameworks
  • Be accountable for the safety, maintenance and administrative responsibilities of the flight operations department
  • Train and educate team members on regulatory requirements and best practices for safe and compliant drone operations.
  • Host monthly safety meetings and communication campaigns, as well as conduct safety and quality audits where required
  • Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the business.
  • Management of the Remote Operations Centres and the staff therein 
  • Prepare Management reports on safety performance, safety issues & proposed solutions
  • Engage with customers and relevant stakeholders, ensuring best safety and regulatory practice, in the deployment and delivery of projects within an enterprise environment

Skills and Experience 

The preferred candidate would have: 

  • Experience in the Aviation industry – CPL would be an advantage
  • Knowledge and experience in formal Safety Management Systems and/ or Workplace Health & Safety legislation
  • IREX Rating and/or RPAS BVLOS experience (highly regarded)
  • Experience in an Air Traffic Services or managing Drone swarm operations (highly regarded but not essential)
  • Strong computer skills and basic IT knowledge
  • Strong oral and written communication ability
  • Ability to pass regular site & aviation medicals, and drug & alcohol testing.
  • Current drivers’ licence
