Why this role matters The Salvation Army Australia’s Family Violence Stream provides a wide range of services around the country to support women and women with children impacted by family and domestic violence. Catherine Haven refuge (Broken Hill Adults and Families Housing Support Service) provides support for women and children who are escaping family and domestic violence.
We also provide support for people at risk of homelessness due to family violence, through supported crisis accommodation, complex case management, transitional housing and community-based support. About the role We are seeking a strengths-based and trauma-informed Child & Youth Specialist worker to deliver child focused interventions and group work to children, young people and their caregivers.
Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a permanent, full-time position based in Broken Hill, NSW. Relocation expenses to Broken Hill can be arranged for the right candidate passionate about working in the local community. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Level 5.
Due to the nature of this service, to identify as a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under s.31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). You will successfully Provide child-focused casework, referring caregivers and their children to appropriate services. Provide on-site therapeutic interventions and recreational activities for children, young people and families.
Engage with children assessing for development and cognitive milestones and referring as appropriate to therapeutic supports, to reduce the impact of family violence related trauma. Engage with caregivers and children to conduct child specific risk assessment and age-appropriate safety planning. Provide information and resources to families that is relevant, accurate, up to date and easy to understand.
Collaborate with the local service system to ensure wrap-around supports for families. Undertake on-call duties for after hours resident emergencies, with on-call coverage on a rostered basis. You will have A current and valid NSW
Working With Children Check. Qualification in social work, psychology, social sciences, community development or related field (counselling skills desirable).
Experience in service delivery with children and families who have experienced trauma. Experience with women and children who have experienced family violence. Computer efficacy and experience in client management systems
