Senior Youth Specialist

Advocate Children and Young People (ACYP)

Location - Lismore and Far North Coast/Northern Rivers region

Employment type - Temporary Full Time for up to 12months

Salary - $120,859 -- $133,183 pa plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Your role

ACYP is seeking an individual who is passionate about driving better outcomes for children and young people in Northern NSW who have been impacted by floods. This is a role where you can really make a difference in the lives of children and young people and the wider community.

In this role you will work with individual children and young people to create and implement tailored plans to support them in navigating support services to meet their immediate needs. You will also drive community consultation work with children and young people to find out what additional supports they need from government and community.

Building and maintaining positive and collaborative working relationships with stakeholders in the area will ensure your success in this role and the success of the service you can provide to children and young people.

This is a role for someone who wants to do work that really matters in the community and make a lasting positive impact on the lives of local children and young people.

What you'll do

As part of the ACYP team you will:

Offer an individualised, relationship-based service that aims to support individual children or young people affected by the floods.

Facilitate and work with children and young people to engage with services, seek information where they find it difficult to navigate the range of services available.

Provide support, coordinate with appropriate agencies for immediate needs.

Facilitate engagement for children and young people with a range of supports from government, non-government and other organisations.

Provide immediate emotional support and psychological first aid as well as information and links to specialist counselling/mental health services.

Work with government and non-government stakeholders to support those who have been identified as at risk.

Liaise with children and young people to facilitate community consultation.

Identify emerging issues and trends for children and young people.

Work in partnership with other Recovery Support Services to ensure continuity of care for families.

What we're looking for

We are looking for an individual who:

Has previous experience in working with children and young people and values and respects their opinions and experiences.

Is passionate about creating opportunities for children and young people in Northern NSW to thrive.

Can build and maintain positive and respectful relationships a range of stakeholders including children, young people, government organisations and non-government organisations.

Can demonstrate sensitivity when working with children and young people who have experienced trauma and have complex needs.

Wants to make a real and lasting positive impact in the lives of children and young people.

Essential Requirements

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience

A current valid driver's license (unrestricted) and willingness to travel regularly and stay overnight is required.

Successful participation in Youth Mental Health First Aid Training as organised upon entry to the role is required.

Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012

It is an essential requirement of the role that successful applicants are fully vaccinated and able to provide acceptable proof of vaccination status.
