Centre Chef (Full-time)
Birches Early Learning Centre (Ormond) is currently seeking an energetic and experienced Centre Chef to manage all aspects of our kitchen and menu. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your passion for preparing healthy and nutritious meals and snacks whilst also fostering children’s interest and education in food at our centre. In this stand-alone role you will have full autonomy with menu planning, budget and ordering through to meal preparation and cooking of healthy daily meals and snacks, ensuring you meet nutritional guidelines along with the specific dietary requirements of children in our care. Additionally, you will adhere to safe food practices and oversee food records and safety checks.
The successful candidate will have:
- Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) minimum
- Food Safety Supervisor certificate
- Experience working in a Class 1 kitchen
- Demonstrated Menu/Meal Planning experience
- Experience with Food Safety Program requirements.
- Ingredient purchasing/preparation
- Excellent knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating
- Experience preparing meals for dietary restrictions including Anaphylaxis, Allergies and Intolerances
- Exceptional organisational management skills
- Working with Children Check
- Drivers licence and own transport is desirable
Responsibilities:
· Plan and prepare daily nutritious meals, including breakfast, morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea for children aged 0 to 6, considering dietary requirements and preparing purees as needed.
· Cater to the needs of children with special dietary requirements and allergies.
· Adhere to the centre's nutrition policy and guidelines.
· Handle weekly ordering and procure additional ingredients as necessary for menu preparation and in accordance with the budget allocated.
· Ensuring quality of meals prepared meet the centre policies and guidelines.
· Reporting of food preparation issues with the centre manager.
· Determine cooking techniques and procedures in the preparation and cooking of food.
· Maintain a safe and hygienic kitchen in accordance with centre policies.
· Engage with Educators, children, and families to foster a sense of community and involvement.
· Ability to create a 4 week rotational seasonal menu in line with Nutrition Australia requirements.
