Citrix Administrator

  • Reports into: Manager, Network and Security Operations
  • Initial End Date: Initially until 31/12/2024; will definitely extend upto a further 12 months, with the possibility of going permanent if both parties are happy.
  • Maximum Rate: $881.05 per day, including super ($888.88 plus GST if an ABN)
  • Location: Hybrid work option is available whereby the candidate will be required to be in the office (Police HQ in Parramatta) for3 days per week (must be able/willing to commit to this); 2 days WFH.

  • Be willing and able to provide 24 x 7 coverage (on-call); once every two (2) months.

The Citrix Administrator’s main role is to perform system administration for Security Services managed devices including firewalls, Citrix NetScaler, Access Gateways, and Intrusion Detection Systems (mainly BAU work). The Citrix Administrator will be responsible for the day-to-day operation under the Security implementation team (8 people). As part of their role, they will actively participate in the change requests and audit of firewall security policy. In addition, they will collaborate with other NSWPF partner agencies including (but not limited to) all Australian law enforcement agencies, NSW and Australian Crime Commissions, Police Integrity Commission, NSW Ombudsman, to address/remediate identified security issues.

As a Citrix Administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting of Citrix NetScaler, Checkpoint firewallsand Juniper. This role requires a solid understanding of network protocols, system administration, and troubleshooting techniques. Responsibilities include:

  1. Configure and maintain various Citrix, Checkpoint, and Juniper products.
  2. Implement and enforce security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, access controls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  3. Manage upgrades and migrations of firewall and inter-agency communications infrastructure to ensure protection of NSWPF information and assets.
  4. Daily administration includes maintenance of various components associated with a Citrix environment which includes, but is not limited to Profile Management, Load Balancing, Redirect/Forwarding.
  5. Enable remote access to NSWPF data by designing, implementing, and overseeing various Virtual Private Network (VPN) architectures and technologies and aligning these solutions to operational requirements.
  6. Monitor network performance to ensure system availability and reliability, perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose complex network problems.
  7. Identify and resolve network-related problems, including connectivity, latency, and bandwidth issues.
  8. Ensure compliance with security policies, standards, and best practices.
  9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including configurations, diagrams, and policies.
  10. Ensure that change control procedures are properly carried out.
  11. Provide 24 x 7 coverage on First and 2nd level support by being on-call (once every two months); there is both a Service Desk and Data Centre Team, and so the Citrix and Firewall Security Administrator only handles the escalated Firewall Security calls.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 5 years+ hands-on experience in Citrix.
  • 3 years+ Firewall Security Administration.
  • Be willing and able to provide 24 x 7 on-call coverage (once every two months).
  • In-depth Citrix knowledge and experience. Certification expected e.g. Citrix Certified Administrator (CCA) in XenApp and/or XenServer with Netscaler knowledge.
  • Strong Juniper Networks knowledge and experience. Certification highly advantageous, but not essential e.g. JNCIA, JNCIS, or JNCIP.
  • In-depth understanding of core IT operations infrastructure systems and configurations and how security policy restrictions can impact their operation. Proven ability to advise on security architectural design and requirements for new system development.
  • In-depth awareness of ongoing IT Security threats and issues and have an ability to analyse the real-world threats posed to operational IT security and suggest and implement suitable solutions quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong Security skills and experience. Certification advantageous, but not essential e.g. Certified information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
  • Sound Cisco knowledge and experience. Certification advantageous, but not essential e.g. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols, including BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and IPsec.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • A commitment to network security best practices.
