About the Role
From 2023, Sydney Airport began to undergo major development projects to improve capacity, efficiency and the overall passenger experience across Airport terminal development and various commercial opportunities. With an extensive and diverse pipeline of projects, Sydney Airport (SYD) is seeking a Civil Design Engineer.
This position will involve undertaking the planning and designing functions for civil infrastructure related to:
- Airfield Infrastructure (Runways, Taxiways, Aprons) and associated facilities
- Airside and Landside civil facilities (including roads, hardstands, carparks)
- Underground infrastructure (including stormwater drainage, conduits, and services trench protection).
You will report directly into the Manager, Engineering and play an integral role within Sydney Airport’s Airport Design team.
What you’ll be doing
As the Civil Engineer, you will undertake several key functions, including:
- Design Governance – development and maintenance of design guidelines, performance briefs, standard details, and scope of services.
- Subject Matter Expertise – provision of technical inputs and advice to support various business units.
- Design Management – provision of design management including cost, time and quality control and incorporating sustainability and safety in design.
- Construction support – provision of technical support during construction phase including inspections, staging, commissioning, and operational readiness.
- Operational support – provision of technical support to the Airport operation and facilities teams including asset life cycle, system fine-tuning, and incident investigation.
You will meet key objectives of these functions while exhibiting SYD’s purpose and values, in support of SYD Strategic outcomes and continuous improvement. You will work in collaboration with Project Teams, contributing to capital work projects to meet their objectives. You will demonstrate your expertise in Civil Engineering across multiple business units, providing reliable and trusted guidance to your peers and leaders.
About you
You will be a qualified Civil Engineer around 5 years post university experience. You will have built a breadth of knowledge and experience in Civil Engineering Design and project delivery. We are looking for someone who is extremely proactive in their approach to work, with a passion for learning, and who genuinely enjoys being a team player in an agile environment. You will have analytical problem-solving skills, enabling you to address conflicting constraints and constructability assessments, be well versed in stakeholder management and will have well-rounded verbal and written communication skills.
Your background should include
- Tertiary qualifications (Degree level) in Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 4 years industry experience in Civil Engineering design and project delivery
- Experience in multi-discipline projects is preferred
- Exposure to project management and delivery is preferred
- Application of MOS139 and similar Airfield Standards is preferred
- Experience in Structural Engineering design is a plus
- Exposure to operational environment is a plus
- Technical knowledge of the disciplines and familiarity to relevant Standards and Best Practices
- Design management including sustainability and safety in design
- Microsoft 365 including all the collaborative tools
- Competence in Microsoft Power Point and MS Project
- Competence in Cad software (AutoCAD/ MicroStation)
