Civil Engineer / Facade Design Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:  

• Determines construction methods, materials and quality standards, and drafts and interprets specifications, drawings, plans, construction methods and procedures
• Studies architectural and engineering drawings and specifications to estimate total costs, and prepare detailed cost plans and estimates as tools to assist in budgetary control
• Carry out engineering design for façade structures in steel, aluminium, steel and concrete structures.
• Conduct engineering computations and design sketches work across a broad range of projects within facades and related areas, with due regards to client requirements and available materials and installation techniques.
• Monitors changes to designs, assesses effects on cost, and measures, values and negotiates variations to designs
• Coordinates all activities related to the Document Control procedures, including design documents, drawings, and sales correspondence.
• Thermal assessment proficiency, employing thermal performance modelling to optimise façade designs for energy efficiency and comfort.
• Liaise with other staff, project teams, associated consultants, and clients and assist in building and maintaining relationships with all of them.
• Reviewing shop drawings and structural calculations
• Attending inspections during construction, installation and fabrication on concrete and steel
• Use computer-assisted façade engineering and design software for simulation purposes and to prepare engineering design documents
• Effectively manage the time, quality and performance of projects.
• Carry out site visits and inspections and produce inspection reports when required.
• Carry out other engineering and project management related duties, as instructed.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 3 Years of civil, structural engineering design, and façade design experience.
• Familiarity with façade systems, façade design and materials manufacture is a distinct advantage.
• High proficiency in AutoCAD 2/3D and/or RHINOCEROS and various structural engineering software packages.
• Reasonably proficient with Australian Standards, NCC and other theoretical background of the provisions in the Standards.
• Specialised skill set focused on façade weatherproofing, condensation risk assessment and thermal performance evaluation.
• Team player with great energy and passion for façade engineering.
