The Drug Detection Agency (TDDA) is a significant provider of Drug and Alcohol testing and related services across Australia and New Zealand.
The Cairns and Townsville regions are operated under licence by Drug Safety Services Pty Ltd, a locally owned company with strong customer relationships and a reputation for quality and customer service.
Services are provided in our purpose-built clinics, on-site in our mobile testing vans, and as remote as the Torres Strait and the Gulf of Carpentaria.
About the RoleWe are looking for a self-sufficient, capable and dependable Clinic Manager / Operations Manager to take responsibility for all day-to-day operational requirements of the Cairns TDDA Clinic, including being trained as a Drug and Alcohol Testing Technician themself.
This is a fast paced, dynamic role suiting a hands-on person with similar practice management experience and / or general experience owning / managing a business with minimum 5 staff.
This full-time role is based at the Cairns TDDA Clinic (183 Aumuller Street, Bungalow) with regular working hours from ~8am to ~4pm. You will have some flexibility to cover earlier / later bookings where required and will be willing to share the on-call phone with the GM (we provide a 24/7 callout service). Rest assured that after hours call-outs are rare.
Core responsibilities include
Operations Management
- Demand planning and scheduling – maintain 12-month forecast / lookahead
- Rostering – weekly
- Job Planning – preparing job sheets
- Quality control
- Booking administration – reporting results and preparing for invoicing
Invoicing
- Generating and / or approving invoices for services rendered
Accounts payable
- Reviewing and approving supplier invoices for payment
General reception duties (shared role)
- Sharing reception duties with rostered technicians
Drug and Alcohol testing
- Breath alcohol testing
- Hair, urine and saliva drug testing
- Conducted in the clinic and in self-contained mobile testing vans
- Opportunities for some remote travel if interested
- On-call as required
Drug and Alcohol training
- You will quickly become an expert in the field and with some additional training you will be prepared to deliver drug and alcohol related training to clients
Customer Relationship Management
- Regular contact with customers to schedule and services
- regular contact with customers to manage accounts
Staff management
- Recruit, induct, train, performance manage
- Approve timesheets
Safety
- Understand and apply Work Health and Safety requirements
- Ensure documented policies and procedures are adhered to
Compliance
- Manage compliance programme for NATA accreditation
- Manage compliance programme to TDDA franchise system standards
Procurement
- Order and receive stock and consumables
Asset management
- Clinic maintenance
- Vehicle maintenance
- Device calibrations
You will have our full support to excel in the role. This includes detailed handover training for the previously listed duties and training to become a qualified Drug and Alcohol testing technician.

- A manual driver’s licence (or willingness to obtain one at own cost) and the ability to drive a high-roof, long-wheel-base van.
- Willingness to handle biological specimens.
- No recent history of illicit drug use – Full background checks will be conducted as well as a pre-employment drug hair test (our cost)
- Construction white card (1 day course your cost)
- Full police clearance no more than 3 months old (your cost)
- An excellent command of written and spoken English
- Legal entitlement to live and work in Australia.
You will be at an advantage if you have the following:
- Drug and Alcohol related general knowledge and/or experience
- Aged Care / Disability Support / Security / Law enforcement / Health / Safety industry experience
