Seeking the best suited applicant to join our team of hardworking, friendly Health Professionals. This role will contribute to the high quality, efficient and cost-effective Specimen Reception service at the Ipswich Hospital Laboratory in a diverse multi-skilled role.
Perform duties in Clinical Pathology and Specimen Reception as per protocols. This may include such duties as routine restocking consumables, maintaining clear work areas, receiving, and validating correct patient identification and labelling process, deciphering of request forms, processing samples for analysis on-site or for referral and despatch to other laboratories and assisting where the Clinical Assistant Supervisor directs.
Maintain professional attitude, work with integrity, comply with expected ethical and behavioural standards, respect patient's confidentiality and know the importance of accurate patient information.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated high level skills, or ability to rapidly acquire high level skills, in the use of the laboratory information system (AUSLAB) and the integrated electronic Medical Record system (ieMR).
- Demonstrated knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of the importance of standard precautions and safety requirements in dealing with biological specimens.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills including respectful behaviour, cooperation, and the ability to communicate effectively and work productively in a team environment.
- Proven ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
- Proven ability to manage time effectively in a highly process driven environment with competing priorities.
Qualifications, registrations, and other requirements
- While not mandatory, a Certificate III or IV in Pathology (Laboratory Assistance/Technique) or equivalent would be well regarded.
- This position requires the incumbent to participate in rosters that include day and evening shifts as well as weekends and public holidays as required. This incumbent may in the future be required in participate in a 24/7 roster.
