What you'll be doingThe Clinical Midwifery Specialist (CMS2) employs advanced clinical skills and exercises extended autonomy of decision making.
The CMS2 will oversee case management of women receiving care in the Westmead MCP and mentor/support the midwives employed in Midwifery Caseload Practice (MCP) at Westmead Hospital to provide continuity of care that is focused on the women’s individual needs, expectations and aspirations in order to improve birthing outcomes for women and their babies.The CMS will liaise with the WMH Clinical Midwifery Educators (CMEs) to ensure a standard of excellence in midwifery practice is maintained by the midwives engaged in MCP. This does not apply for staff with disability.Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.Essential CriteriaRegistration: MidwiferySelection Criteria * Registered Midwife (Division 1) with AHPRA.
  • Holds a relevant clinical or education post registration qualification and a minimum three years full time equivalent post graduate qualification experience in midwifery continuity of care/ caseload /MGP practice.
  • Proven competence in advanced midwifery skills: Perineal suturing/ cannulation / maternal and neonatal resuscitation/ speculum examination /comprehensive assessment of the newborn.
  • Holds a current NSW full drivers licence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in midwifery practice and understanding of the principles of continuity of care.
  • Demonstrated effective clinical communication including verbal, written and interpersonal skills and use of information technology and the ability to plan and prioritise workload.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Demonstrated mentorship and clinical teaching skills.
