About the Role
The Head and Neck Cancer, Clinical Nurse Consultant is be responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of evidence based best practice and patient flow systems throughout the continuum of care for people with head and neck cancer and their families. This includes the coordination and care of patients with cancer and the provision of nursing expertise to support and manage patient health care needs.This position will be located within the ENT Department offices at Monash Medical Centre, Moorabbin Campus however will involve working across all sites.The position is a clinical leadership role that includes:
- Facilitating the development of systems and processes to support the planning and coordination of treatment, education and support needs to patients and their families across the disease trajectory;
- Provide complex management and support to H&N patients from referral to surveillance;
- Provide support and counselling as a point of contact for patients, staff and external agencies for assessment, care, treatment and follow up for head and neck patients;
- Link patients in with existing support networks as required;
- In conjunction with the outpatients clinic coordinator review H&N referrals and triage according to urgency;
- Manage the H&N multidisciplinary meetings, H&N database and SMICS database; and
- Assist in the collection of information for the H&N audit.
Specific criterion for this position in addition to those listed in the Position Description:
- Senior Nurse with extensive experience in caring for patients undergoing Head & Neck Surgery.
- Experience in working with patients and their families with a newly diagnosed cancer.
- Expert clinical acumen in complex patient care.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in an organised fashion to meet the clinical demands of the patients and family.
- Masters Degree in Nursing or working towards.
- Current valid drivers licence.
