The role:

We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse Educator to join our dynamic team within the Endoscopy Unit at John Hunter Hospital. Situated within the Interventional Suite, our Endoscopy Unit is pivotal in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal, respiratory, and other internal conditions through advanced endoscopic procedures. As a collaborative unit comprising proceduralists, nurses, and anaesthetists, we prioritise compassionate, person-centered care that ensures patients feel comfortable and well-informed throughout their journey.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the future of our team by orienting new staff to our specialised environment, procedures, and protocols. Your responsibilities will encompass developing and delivering comprehensive training programs to enhance staff competence and compliance with best practices in endoscopy. Collaborating closely with the Nurse Educator of Medical and Interventional Services, you will contribute to broader educational initiatives across the facility, participate in quality improvement projects, and engage in interdisciplinary research and meetings.

The position, 20 hours per week, offers flexibility in workdays and hours to accommodate educational activities and training needs, typically scheduled from 0800hrs to 1630hrs. To excel in this role, you should demonstrate advanced clinical expertise in endoscopic procedures, coupled with a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, sedation management, and post-procedural care. Your ability to lead educational endeavors, mentor colleagues, and foster a culture of continuous learning will be critical.
