What you'll be doing
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Integrated Violence Abuse and Neglect Services (IVANS), using best practice evidence provides person-centred specialist nursing care at an advanced practice level for the designated speciality in collaboration with individual/s and the multidisciplinary health care team. Provides clinical leadership, support, and supervision for less experienced clinicians to achieve people focused quality care.The primary purpose of the CNS – IVANS position is to provide medical and forensic responses and health care (within scope of practice) to people who have experienced violence, abuse, and Neglect. This includes providing integrated crisis responses, non-acute clinical care, and follow up medical care and health care navigation.Selection Criteria * Post-registration qualifications in a relevant clinical specialty and at least 3 years’ experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification (e.g. sexual health, family planning, women’s health, obstetrics and gynaecology and emergency medicine), with current authority to practice unrestricted as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). In addition, completed; be working towards; or willing to enrol within 6 months in the NSW Health Education Centre Against Violence Graduate Certificate in the Medical and Forensic Management of Adult Sexual Assault (or equivalent) and have completed at least three supervised sexual assault medical and forensic examinations before practicing independently.
  • Demonstrated competencies in and knowledge of the complexities and challenges involved in providing speciality nursing care in the context of a multidisciplinary team including demonstrated clinical experience in, or demonstrated ability to gain experience in, clinical forensic medicine for clients of all genders.
  • Demonstrate ability to exercise extended autonomy in clinical decision-making capabilities and leadership in the development of nursing specialty practice advancement. This includes high quality, trauma-informed and culturally safe care to clients who have experienced violence, Abuse and Neglect and may present as highly distressed; and demonstrated ability to supervise, delegate, and negotiate with others to deliver quality nursing care with a willingness to show leadership and embrace change in the coordination and delivery of care.
  • Demonstrated effective clinical communication using information technology, written and verbal means and sound interpersonal skills with the capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of evidence-based practice and critical thinking to advocate for and implement individualised person-centred care at an extended role level with a commitment to quality improvement including highly developed clinical skills in patient assessment and care planning with demonstrated ability to provide referrals as required.
  • Evidence of participation in own professional development, a commitment to maintaining competence and enhancement of skills in the context of a multidisciplinary team. This includes a commitment to the provision of education and integrated psychosocial, medical, and forensic responses to people experiencing VAN, with a willingness to apply and share professional expertise as a resource person and mentor others within the speciality.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call roster or extended shift work.
  • Evidence of current unrestricted drivers’ licence and ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
