Location: Mungindi Community Health Service
Employment Type: Permanent Full Time
Position Classification: Registered Nurse or Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 1
Hours Per Week: 38
Requisition ID: REQ479816
Applications Close: Wednesday, 17th April 2024

Make this role your own! You have the ability to leverage your previous nursing experience and bring it to a rural setting.

Your predecessor Fiona was in the role for 17 years and stated - “This role is fantastic for professional development. There is so much available online and you are supported to develop your skills. You must have a heart for people and want the best for your community. You need to be an autonomous person who can identify healthcare gaps in the community, follow your nursing passion and also upskill to work towards filling those gaps. Mungindi was the best management I have ever had; very supportive and understanding. If you are looking to make a real difference in people’s lives throughout their lifecycles this role is for you.”

About the Role

  • You will deliver care across the lifespan and health continuum in either the clinic or community environment.
  • This rural remote placement will allow you to build the role into what you want based on your skills and the gaps in healthcare in the community.
  • You will get exposure to changing health outcomes for the Indigenous population in Mungindi, which equates to just over 20% of the population (according to the 2016 census).
  • You will be required to support and coordinate specialised services outreaching Mungindi to ensure the community has appropriate health care access.
  • Examples of these specialised services include Child and Family Health, Aboriginal and Maternal Infant Health Strategy, Diabetes Educator and visiting allied health services.
  • Health promotion via referrals and community engagement will also be required.
  • You will have the flexibility to follow your passion to meet the needs of the community. There are opportunities for professional development, promoting the development of other nurses and running education sessions.
  • You will also have the opportunity to work with Angel Flight, Mungindi Hospital and Moree Health Services.

About You

  • We are looking for a proactive person who is constantly identifying gaps in the community and can work autonomously.
  • You need to be skilled in wound care, chronic disease management, immunisation, and aged care coordination.
  • You are interested in extensive educational opportunities and professional development.
  • As a sole clinician, the role requires appropriate clinical and organisational skills to run a community clinic.

Where you'll be working

  • “Moree, Mungindi and Boggabilla Community Health teams are a pleasure to work with. It is such a supportive and collaborative environment. We are so lucky to have such skilled and passionate staff in our communities.”- Lee, Health Service Manager
  • You will be based at Mungindi, in the same office as the previous Community Nurse which gives you access to her wealth of knowledge right at your fingertips! Visiting clinicians also work out of Mungindi frequently.
  • You will start in Moree to learn the systems, meet the team, and feel confident to work as a sole practitioner. At times you will be required to work onsite in Moree.
  • Mungindi Community Health sits under the umbrella of Moree Community Health which provides management and support of a wider community nursing and multidisciplinary team.
  • You will have the option to attend any training days in Moree with the wider team and potential opportunities to educate other clinicians.

About Mungindi

  • Mungindi is the only town in Australia where the name is the same on both sides of the border although it has a New South Wales postcode. During daylight savings, this means the town has two different time zones.
  • Mungindi is located about an hour and a half from Moree.
  • Mungindi offers a simplistic lifestyle, with starkly beautiful landscapes that are perfect for the outdoors adventurer.
  • With a population of approximately 700 people, Mungindi is a close-knit community town that produces wheat, cotton, sheep, and beef cattle for local, national and international markets.
  • A town with many community clubs including sporting, fishing, golf days, show committees and the progress association.
  • Fiona describes Mungindi as “the community that gives back to you as much as you put into it.”

Benefits

  • Receive the Rural Health Incentives (See Below)
  • Non-Shift based role - NO late shifts, NO weekends.
  • Scholarships are available for additional studies.
  • Cost of short-term accommodation for up to 12 months
  • This role offers you the flexibility to follow your nursing passion, specialise in your interests and upskill.
  • Extensive Support is offered by Management, the previous Clinician, and the wider community.
  • As you provide care for families throughout their lifecycle, such as for their baby's immunisation through to medical care for kids in school you will form close relationships with the community and make a real difference in their lives.
  • Four weeks annual leave (pro-rata for part-time employees)
  • Up to 12 allocated days off each year (for full-time employees)
  • Superannuation contributions 11%
  • A tight-knit community that welcomes you to town.
  • Salary packaging - Up to $9k for living expenses + $2.6k meal and entertainment + Novated leasing.
  • Fitness Passport
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for staff and family members
