Clinical Pharmacist

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

About the role:

In this position, you will be working closely with a ward-based multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive pharmacy service. Ensuring excellence in patient care, evidence-based practice, service improvement, and risk management with a role in supporting the training of junior pharmacists and technician staff.

  • Monitor and report on medication use to achieve both budget and service delivery targets.
  • Review, validate, dispense, compound, and check medicines, according to local guidelines, formulary restrictions, and training validations to ensure the timely provision of key therapy and to facilitate patient flow.
  • Act as a resource for medication safety and medicines governance to rostered areas through regular audits of compliance with medication-related processes and policies.
  • Actively contribute to pharmacy-related teaching, educational, and orientation activities to pharmacy staff, other health care professionals, and patients/carers.
  • Participate in other Pharmacy functions as required including accountable medication management; maintenance of policies and guidelines; electronic system updates; quality improvement initiatives; auditing; data collection; incident and intervention reporting; research; projects; and stewardship programs.
  • There will be opportunities to pursue research and innovation.
  • The Pharmacist will report to the area Team Leader or Manager.

John Hunter Hospital Pharmacy department is home to an energetic and enthusiastic team working in a wide variety of roles. The department provides an extensive range of pharmacy services including manufacturing, medication safety, and clinical trials in addition to ward and dispensary roles for pharmacists and technicians.

Requirements:

  • Current Pharmacist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with no restrictions on practice.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in on-call, after-hours, weekend, and public holiday work as required.

This position is advertised as a Grade 1 or Grade 2 Pharmacist. An evaluation against the Award criteria for a Grade 2 Pharmacist will determine the grading of the successful applicant.
