This position is open to a suitably qualified Clinical Psychologist - temporary part-time.
Sydney Children’s Hospital Network Eating Disorder Service (SCHN EDS) is a tertiary service treating young people with anorexia nervosa and other Eating Disorders from all over New South Wales.
Inpatient re-feeding admissions, outpatient treatment, intensive day treatment, family admission program, parent groups and an extensive family therapy program are offered across two sites at The Children’s Hospital Westmead and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.
The EDS also has a well-established clinical research program and regularly provides training, education and supervision to other services. The EDS is jointly managed and staffed by the Department of Psychological Medicine and Department of Adolescent Medicine.
This position is based in the Department of Psychological Medicine and will provide services at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. This position will be involved in all aspects of the inpatient services including assessment, individual, family and group therapy.
This is an excellent opportunity for a clinician looking to extend themselves to work at a tertiary level in a supportive team. The successful applicant will be supported to develop a professional development plan to gain specialist skills required and would suit a candidate with a special interest in working intensively with families.
What you'll be doing
The primary focus of this position is to provide specialist psychological services to children, young people and their families referred for mental health care at the Sydney Childrens’ Hospital Network. This includes psychological assessments, evidence-based psychological interventions, group work, psycho-education and advocacy. The Clinical Psychologist works as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team located at the Westmead Campus.
In addition to the clinical responsibilities this position is required to play a key role in service development and continuous quality improvement to ensure clinical needs of children, young people and their families are met. The position will lead development and provision of education and supervision to both Clinical Psychologists and other health professionals within SCHN and externally. The Clinical Psychologist also provides a consultative role within their area of clinical specialty to key stakeholders including supervision, consultation and teaching via videoconferencing (CAPTOS) to allied health clinicians in rural and remote NSW child and adolescent mental health services, including one or two rural visits per year.
The Department of Psychological Medicine has a number of multi-disciplinary clinical teams. The Clinical Psychologist may be required to work in any of the teams, according to service needs as determined by the Head of Department.
  • Completion of 2 year (minimum) full time equivalent accredited postgraduate Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology. Full registration with the AHPRA Psychology Board of Australia, with Clinical Psychology endorsement, or eligibility to progress to the same.
  • Clinical skills and expertise in mental health that allow the applicant to fulfil the tasks of the role as outlined in the statement of duties.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team led by a medical consultant.
  • Experience in paediatric psychological assessment and therapy, specifically in cognitive behaviour therapy and systemic family therapy at a minimum.
  • Skills in teaching and the development of teaching material.
  • Experience in the provision of clinical supervision.
  • Demonstrated research and publication.
  • Capable of independent initiation as well as ability to work well in a team.
Applicants currently enrolled in a combined Masters/PhD are eligible to apply if they have completed the equivalent of Masters degree requirements as part of the PhD pathway. Evidence of this is demonstrated by a completed PDEC-76 form and cover letter from the University confirming Masters degree requirements have been met.
Applicants are eligible to apply if they have completed an accredited Masters degree and are awaiting their graduation ceremony. Written confirmation from the University is required.
Successful applicants who have completed the Masters degree or Masters degree requirements and are awaiting full registration from the Psychology Board of Australia will be paid at Year 2 of the Psychologist Scale until they have full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, at which point they will commence on Year 1 of the Clinical Psychologist scale.
