Senior Clinical Psychologist - REDC

About us:

In 2024 Hunter New England Local Health District will be opening a Residential Eating Disorders Centre (REDC) - the first of its kind- for NSW. Once the construction is finished, this role will be situated at Charlestown, Lake Macquarie. In the meantime, our temporary location is at Mater Mental Health Centre in Waratah. Charlestown, it is 15km from Newcastle CBD and has good connectivity to community and transport whilst being nestled in a natural bushland setting within a residential area. 
This 12 bed, brand new, purpose- built facility will provide an innovative model of care for people 16 years and over, with an eating disorder in a homelike environment. A skilled multidisciplinary team will provide an intensive program of individual and group interventions, using a rehabilitation framework. Interventions will focus on specialist treatment for Eating Disorders together with addressing psychosocial disruption and overall quality of life.

REDC will be required to function in conjunction with existing specialised tertiary services, with a broad range of stakeholders, both in public and private sectors within Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) and across NSW.

About your new job!

The Senior Clinical Psychologist will be a member of the Senior Clinical care coordination team which will work closely with the manager to provide leadership and governance. The role will ensure a Psychology perspective is embedded into all aspects of service development and delivery. This will include:

  1. Comprehensive and collaborative client care including developing assessment procedures to inform recovery-oriented care plans and clinical decision making.
  2. Developing protocols for individual and group treatment programs and interventions that address psychosocial complexity underpinned by evidence-based treatments and evidence informed best practice approaches for people with Eating Disorders and their families/carers
  3. Collaborative and individualised planning and preparation for discharge with an emphasis on the psychosocial support needs in the transition to community living
  4. Optimising opportunities for psychosocial engagement within REDC and also through establishing networks and linkages with community
  5. Providing support and supervision of less experienced REDC staff members and consultation/engagement with broader HNE MH Psychology network.

You are:

  • Experienced and competent in the treatment of Eating Disorders with exceptional interpersonal skills and a flexible approach.
  • As a team member, able to work in a collaborative and respectful way, demonstrating warmth and compassion for others.
  • Passionate about improving services for people with an eating disorder.
  • Confident in the value of psychological interventions in recovery and able to establish the role of Psychology in this treatment setting whilst also valuing the contributions and perspectives of other professions. 

Requirements:

  • Generally registered as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia with area of practice endorsement in clinical psychology, with not less than 12 months full time equivalent on Year 5 of the Clinical Psychology pay scale.
  • Eligible to drive in NSW.
