Clinical Risk and Safety Officer
Fixed term full time (maternity leave cover position)

​How you will make an impact
Working in collaboration with the other members of the Clinical Risk and Quality Systems team, you will assist in the development of a culture of safety, quality, and risk management across Cabrini sites. To achieve this, you will work to improve systems and processes to monitor, follow up and reduce the incidents of adverse events and to enhance patient safety.
The Clinical Risk & Safety Officer will support the Clinical Risk Manager in the initiation, planning, implementation, reporting, and evaluation of Clinical Risk Management functions including incident management, medico-legal work, and clinical audit activities. The role includes incident capture, clinical incident reporting, clinical incident review, and overall Clinical Risk reduction.
Key responsibilities will include:
Incident/mortality/Hospital Acquired Complication Case reviews and follow up of identified issues
Implementing the incident management procedures as per the Incident Management Policy as well as review and development of policy and procedures that impact safety and risk
Working with staff and managers in the investigation and reporting of significant clinical incident events
Supporting frontline clerical staff in incident management responses on the ward and in real time
Regularly reviewing reported incidents including the identification of possible trends that require improvement and ensuring appropriate follow up, investigation and closure
Partnering with and supporting department managers to monitor their key patient safety risks and interventions.
About you
You will enjoy working collaboratively in a team focused on fostering an organisational culture that encourages continuous improvement through the management of Clinical Risk.
You will also have the following:
Relevant degree in health-related discipline
At least 4 years' post-graduate clinical nursing experience in the acute care setting preferably at a senior nurse level (desirable), or other relevant clinical background
Clinical Risk management/medico legal experience (highly desirable)
Advanced people skills with the capacity to work closely with various stakeholders and communicate and negotiate at senior levels
Ability to participate in/lead Root Cause Analysis investigations
Capacity to define and reconcile complex and competing priorities
Effective consultation, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills
Ability to analyse and interpret data
