Counselling, AccessAbility and Wellbeing Services at Curtin
We support our students at a range of levels, from answering their questions about navigating the campus and settling into university life, to providing them with counselling, resources and advice during crises and other stressful situations.
Your New Role
As a dedicated and experienced Clinical/Counselling Psychologist, you will provide a full range of individual and group counselling programs. You will work collaboratively and effectively with our dedicated Psychologists, Counsellors, and Support Worker Advisors to promote psychological and counselling services to students and the wider University community.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Conduct psychological assessments to evaluate the cognitive, emotional, intellectual, and behavioural functioning of clients referred to the Psychological and Counselling Services.
- Provide individual, couple, and group interventions to clients using a variety of methodologies, including behaviour and cognitive therapy, as well as systemic intervention.
- Provide consultation and liaise with academics and external agencies to identify strategies to help individuals cope with a range of psycho-social issues, such as mental illness, psychological problems, disability/illness, acculturation, and adjustment difficulties.
- Develop and implement preventative educational workshops and programs for students.
- Participate in research projects as appropriate to improve the knowledge base related to counselling and psychological services in higher education and to inform clinical practice.
- Relevant post-graduate qualification and eligibility for registration as a clinical or counselling psychologist consistent with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting assessments and applying counselling interventions relevant to the needs of a culturally diverse population.
- Demonstrated knowledge of short-term methods of intervention for clients with high support needs.
- Proven ability to liaise effectively with a range of other professionals and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated knowledge of clients with complex needs.
