Coral Expeditions is Australia’s pioneering cruise line, specialising in a unique style of immersive adventures by small expedition ship. With humble beginnings hosting cruises on the Great Barrier Reef, the company has grown into a borderless fleet of three ships carrying between 72 and 120 guests. For four decades, Coral Expeditions has operated with a single purpose – to take small groups of likeminded explorers to remote places with expert guidance and warm Australian hospitality. In 2023, we have returned to international sailings including New Zealand, Japan, Papua New Guinea, and Islands of Indonesia.
Our Role
The Commercial Analyst is responsible for mining our internal systems and industry data to prepare regular and ad-hoc reports for our commercial and executive teams. This includes collating and presenting business intelligence for our weekly commercial activity pipeline meetings, new product pricing analyses and forecasting trend analysis. These reports provide the bases for strategic and tactical decisions on pricing, fleet deployment, terms of trade for our travel trade partners and advertising and promotion. As such, this position provides the analytical intelligence that allows the company to make better commercial decisions. The position is based in our Head Office in Cairns.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Prepares weekly Pipeline Reports, as well as other reports as defined by Commercial Director.
- Highlights patterns in data and triggers appropriate discussion.
- Actively participates in discussions and steers company towards better decisions.
- Develops reporting and analysis tools for Department Managers through use and integration of data key programs.
- Keeps database up to date and data clean for reporting purposes.

Intellectual curiosity, ability to manipulate large data-sets, recognise patterns, and work independently are critical success factors. You will possess/be:
- At least 3 years of professional experience in an analytical function such as pricing, revenue management, management consulting/advisory, or financial analysis.
- University degree in business, marketing, accounting, or related fields.
- Experience with large databases.
- Comfortable with Microsoft suite of programs, in particular Excel.
- A structured thinker and independent problem solver.
- Experience in the travel industry is desirable, but not essential.
- Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services is desirable, but not essential.
