The role
The primary function of the Commercial Consultant is to ensure that our providers deliver competitive advantage to the business with strong capability and performance.
The function also works closely with the Home Claims & Assessing teams, Legal, Risk & Regulatory and IT departments to ensure that the panel of providers meets all the business’s financial, service, operational and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate has extensive procurement and contract knowledge, strong analytical and negotiation skills, and experience within the general insurance, or related, sector.
Sourcing, Selection, Market Research & Analysis
- Proactively undertake research and analysis of relevant markets to identify new opportunities/providers that may help deliver AGS a competitive advantage;
- Liaise with internal team members to identify high performing and innovative providers in relevant markets; and
- Explore and facilitate opportunities to establish ‘test and learn’ initiatives that may lead to new and improved business outcomes and capabilities.
- Perform procurement focused activities, specifically relating to Sourcing and Selection of appropriate suppliers.
Contract Negotiation & Development
- Understand and apply a commercially ‘best practice; approach to undertaking and closing negotiations with new and existing providers;
- Work with Executives and relevant support team members (Legal, Regulatory and Operations) to ensure targeted providers deliver a fit for purpose solution that delivers on the businesses objectives;
Panel Performance Management
- Work with the Commercial and Relationship Consultant teams to ensure providers are performing at acceptable levels;
- Identify performance and capability gaps (skills, workload capacity, geo-coverage) in the panel and work with stakeholders to develop appropriate solutions;
- Work with the Commercial and Relationship Consultant teams to address systemic or long-term performance issues and, if necessary, recommend and manage the exit of poor performers.
- Take all reasonable directions from leaders to comply with the organisation’s workplace health & safety (WHS) protocols. WHS is everyone’s responsibility.

What experience you’ll bring
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Commercial role;
- Strong procurement and contract development experience);
- Sound understanding of the general insurance sector;
- Experience in preparing formal documentation, including contracts, business case and reports;
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, as well as the ability to meet tight deadlines in a complex and rapidly changing environment;
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and work on multiple activities in a fast-paced/ dynamic environment.
Highly regarded, but not essential:
- Certificate IV in Procurement and Contracting
