Job description

  • Be part of a fabulous multi-disciplinary team and help tell the story of the Raine Study.
  • Level 7, part-time appointment on a 2-year fixed term basis - 3 days per week (0.6 FTE).
  • Base salary range: $95,737 – $106,223 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

The University of Western Australia (UWA) is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world and a member of the prestigious Australian Group of Eight research intensive universities. With a strong research track record, vibrant campus and working environments, supported by the freedom to innovate and inspire, there is no better time to join Western Australia’s top university.

About the team
The Raine Study is one of the world’s longest running pregnancy cohort studies, and the most extensive and successful study of human health from the womb to adulthood. Three and sometimes four generations of the same Western Australian families, first recruited to the Raine Study between 1989 and 1991, have taken part in 18 follow-up studies over 35 years. More than 740 research papers have been published as a result of their continued and ongoing involvement in the Raine Study.

The Raine Study is an Unincorporated Joint Venture (UJV) between The University of Western Australia, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University, The University of Notre Dame Australia, Women and Infants Research Foundation and the Telethon Kids Institute.

About the opportunity
The Communications Officer will develop and implement the Raine Study’s communications plan and coordinate the related activities. You will develop and maintain relationships with the Raine Study UJV partners to utilise partner media, PR and marketing resources. You will consult regularly with the Raine Study Team to develop plans and to advise on marketing and promotional strategies to enhance the Raine Study’s reputation and improve stakeholder communications, engagement and retention.

As the appointee you will, under broad direction, provide senior administrative strategic planning and direction to the area, respond to complex and diverse enquiries using expertise and judgement to independently analyse and solve problems. This is a hands-on role, and the ideal candidate will have a strong ‘can do’ attitude and continuously show initiative.

As Communications Officer, you are responsible for planning, coordinating and creating specialist written and visual digital content (e.g. video, audio, online graphics) for delivery across all of the department’s internal and external communication channels. To fulfil the requirements of this role, the ideal candidate will be based fully on site.

About you
To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • Substantial relevant experience in communications preferably in a health-related area.
  • Public Relations, Marketing or Advertising experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in traditional and digital marketing techniques, including implementing digital marketing initiatives that enhance the organisation's brand awareness and reputation.
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of developing marketing strategies to meet organisational objectives including experience in implementing a communications plan.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills appropriate to influencing and dealing with stakeholders, supporters and research participants.
  • Highly developed organisational skills with the demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative, problem solve and work productively and cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in a range of computing skills including design software, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, and email.
