As a seasoned corporate communicator, you will plan and execute earned media activities that enhance RAC's reputation as Western Australia's leading advocate in areas such as road safety, transport and sustainability. You will confidently liaise with journalists, reporters, producers, and other media representatives on a daily basis, as you skilfully convert complex topics into newsworthy stories. This role is offered as a Full Time, 12month Maximum Term Contract.
What you will be doing? The successful candidate will have extensive experience in corporate communications and/or journalism and will: Proactively identify and pitch stories to media (newspaper, radio, TV, online). Foster relationships with journalists, reporters, producers, and other media contacts and confidently manage media enquiries.
Research and draft media releases, articles, talking points and other communications materials. Liaise with internal stakeholders, including senior management, to seek media opportunities and provide counsel on media related issues. Use advanced communication skills to process complex topics into concise and engaging messages.
Prepare and coach spokespeople in advance of media interviews. Work with a small, energetic team in a fast-paced and issues-rich environment. Support the team to manage issues and risks.
Be on call after hours and on alternating weekends to answer media queries. What are we looking for in you? Substantial experience and knowledge of pitching to mainstream media (newspapers, radio, TV, online) and managing media enquiries.
Degree level qualification in communications, public relations, journalism or related area. A strong news sense and extensive knowledge of the communications and media industry in WA. A proven track record dealing with complex subject matters.
