Western Australian Senator Dorinda Cox is a Yamatji Noongar woman and the Australian Greens spokesperson for First Nations, Resources, Trade, Tourism and North Australia.
Senator Cox was proud to enter Federal parliament and Senate as the first ever WA First Nations Senator. As spokesperson for her portfolios and representing her constituents, she is required to undertake Senate and Committee work and to attend media engagements and events throughout Australia.
To enable her to undertake her work, she leads and requires a highly driven and determined team. No two days are the same. If you bring a can do and positive attitude alongside Media and communication experience, this is an exceptional opportunity.
You will be supported by a team of like minded and dynamic people, who are united in their goal of fighting for positive, progressive change and the rights of everyday people, including First Nations peoples. They complete this work collaboratively and respectfully in a fast-paced political environment.
The work hours can be irregular including some weekend work and you will be required to travel to Canberra for sitting weeks and occasional interstate travel, as required.

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Media and Communications strategy alongside the team- Including advice on budget expenditure and digital communications.
- Evaluation and ongoing evaluation of effectiveness of Media and Communications strategy
- Provide media advice and prepare comments in line with Greens policy positions and values
- Research and write media releases, media briefs, opinion pieces and speeches as required
- Oversee social Media and digital communications across multiple platforms including design and messaging for campaigns
- Build and maintain relationships with local media outlets and the Press Gallery in Canberra
- Coordinate media engagements and prepare the Senator for media events
- Produce a daily media report and ensure the Senator and team are kept informed of important breaking news
- Identify media opportunities that support the Senator’s parliamentary objectives, constituent work and campaigns
- Assist the Policy and Parliamentary Adviser with stakeholder management and parliamentary preparation as needed
- Work collaboratively with other Greens staff to promote shared objectives
- Maintain a high-level of professionalism and confidentiality
- Manage challenging circumstances within fast-paced working environments including strategic advice in response to urgent incidents
- Be available after hours and on weekends to provide support on all media-related matters as required
- Other tasks as directed by the Chief of Staff or Senator.
The skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills across a variety of mediums
- Experienced in developing and implementing Media and Communications strategies
- Knowledge and experience of First Nations rights, and contemporary issues within Australian society.
- Ability to research, understand and communicate complex issues simply and concisely
- Ability to works strategically and creatively in a respectful and collaborative way
- Demonstrated understanding of the Australian and international Media and digital media platforms.
- Demonstrated experience of proactive fostering and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders.
- Strong work ethic, supported by excellent interpersonal skills
- Be flexible, adaptable and manage competing priorities under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.

Desired
- Experience as a Political Adviser or Media and Communications Advisor
- Qualifications in journalism, Media and Communications, law or public policy
Pay and Conditions
This position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984, and employment conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023. In addition to your salary, generous employer-sponsored superannuation of 15.4% is offered. You will also receive Electoral Allowance.
