About the role
This position works as part of a team of communication professionals to assists in the delivery of Council’s community engagement activities by providing strategic and detailed advice, plans, support, delivery and training under the IAP2 framework to inform, consult and engage the Townsville community.
The Communications and Engagement Officer is responsible for ensuring our communication and Engagement efforts hit the mark, are interesting, and encourage community participation, all while working within tight deadlines and handling sensitive issues. This role involves building and maintaining relationships with important community partners and stakeholders to keep a consistent approach to engagement, contributing to the planning and supporting delivery of effective communication and Engagement strategies and initiatives.
About you
Our ideal applicant will have:
- Demonstrated experience role modelling a positive safety culture and adherence to the Health Safety Management Systems through visible leadership and exercising due diligence and management of compliance and legislative obligations.
- Current QLD “C” class drivers' licence.
- IAP2 Certification Engagement.
- Formal qualifications in Communications and/or a related field, or the ability to obtain.
- Minimum two years industry specific experience (such as Communications, Stakeholder Engagement, Customer Experience and/or Project Management).
- Experience in a similar role delivering successful communication and Engagement plans and activities.
- Demonstrated understanding and the application of the community engagement principles and processes within the IAP2 framework.
- Well-developed people skills and communication skills, including the ability to consult, negotiate, build relationships, and engage with stakeholders.
- Well-developed written communication skills for a variety of audiences using a range of communication channels with the purpose of informing, consulting, and influencing.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Well-developed prioritisation and time management skills including the ability to identify, plan and organise work objectives with a focus on achieving team and organisational outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive issues and confidential matters including provide clear and concise information to stakeholders when managing enquiries and complaints.
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite applications in particular Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel and a working knowledge of online engagement platforms (e.g., Engagement Hub, Engagement HQ).
