The Role
You will lead a small team of communication security (COMSEC) experts (ADF and APS staff), be accountable for the delivery of ICT service provision requirements and have a significant level of autonomy to enable you meet the cryptographic support requirements of the unit.
As the COMSEC Account Manager, you will conduct key stakeholder engagement to identify, anticipate and respond to the needs and expectations of stakeholders. This includes:
- Providing technical, professional and policy advice, as well as contributing to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.
- Management of the COMSEC team as a supervisor of ADF members.
- Providing clear direction, leadership, tasking and support.
- Having an advanced understanding of routine COMSEC accounting practices including issuing keying material, EDR management, SF153 management, CARDS accounting, local issue procedures, security checking requirements, domestic and overseas ACM movement procedures and compliance procedures.
- Conducting routine compliance checks on supported elements, providing assistance, guidance, and training where appropriate.
The additional payment is a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP) which enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the rate of salary otherwise payable under the Enterprise Agreement (EA) to some or all of the jobs within a critical occupation(s) or discipline within a workplace.
Applicants engaged into a BDCP position must consider the following. BDCPs provide remuneration in addition to the Defence Enterprise Agreement (EA). This arrangement is subject to meeting eligibility criteria and is subject to annual review. Should your performance fall beyond requirements or the eligibility criteria not be met, your eligibility for the BDCP may be reviewed and ceased.
It may also be ceased should you change positions or the requirement for the BDCP is no longer necessary, as determined by Defence. Should the BDCP be ceased you will be advised and your BDCP additional payment will cease.
About our Team
The 2 Commando Regiment Communications Security (COMSEC) team operates a large COMSEC facility within the Regiment. The team reports directly to the Commanding Officer and is responsible for providing direct cryptographic support to the Regiment and five Local Elements. The team is integral to meeting the information assurance requirements of Defence training, operational activities and whole of Government lines of effort.
Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate must have significant experience in COMSEC, have broad knowledge and understanding of Communications Information Systems (CIS) capability, be self-motivated and capable of ensuring the successful delivery of COMSEC in support of the high-tempo environments of operations and training.
The candidate must have the personal qualities needed to organise, support, advise and lead a specialist team of COMSEC staff. This includes having integrity, strong communications skills, initiative and the ability to work independently when required.
The ideal candidate should have previously held the position of Communications Account Manager (CAM) or Assistant CAM and have operated the AKMI capability.
