ABOUT THE ROLE:Summary of the role:The FaPMI (Families where a Parent experiences Mental Illness) program aims to improve outcomes for consumers who are parents, their children and families by reducing any impact parental mental illness may have on all family members through timely, coordinated, preventative and supportive action within Adult and Older Adult Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Services (AMHWS).The CYP (child and young persons) role has been created in response to the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System 2021, and is an expansion of the Victorian state wide FaPMI program, by enabling each AMHWS to employ new workers to support young carers in their local environment and increasing funding available to these young carers/supporters to help with practical needs.The position sits within the FaPMI program at Mercy Mental Health and Wellbeing Service, and will contribute to the provision of a whole of family approach to service delivery. The FaPMI CYP worker will support the aims and delivery of the local FaPMI program with FaPMI coordinators. The FaPMI CYP worker will focus on supporting children and young people up to 25 years old, including young carers.WHAT WILL CYP worker DO?
The FaPMI CYP worker will contribute to the provision of a whole of family approach to service delivery, work closely with Case Managers and FaPMI Coordinators. Partner with relevant service providers in the delivery of peer support groups to children and young people up to the age of 25 who have a parent experiencing mental illness/mental health challenges.CYP worker will engage directly with children and young people in caring and support roles, assist in strengthening formal and informal support networks within their family context, where gaps identified. Provide practical support, information and opportunities for connection with peers in similar circumstances, including referrals and/ involvement with appropriate peer support programs.This position is based at Saltwater Community Mental Health Clinic, Footscray, and will work across Mercy Mental Health & Wellbeing Services located in Wyndham & Hobsons Bay.Hours of work during business hours, 4 days per week. Flexible work option available for successful candidate.ABOUT YOU:
  • Education : Cert IV in Community Development or equivalent
  • A current unrestricted Victorian Driver’s License and ability to drive a work vehicle
  • Satisfactory National Police Record Check
  • Current Victorian Working with Children Check
Desirable:
  • Ability to speak a second language relevant to the local community
  • At least 6 months relevant employment within a similar role within the last 18 months
