Job description

Community Hub Leader

Austral Public School

  • Position: Part time temporary position (25 hours weekly)
  • Period: Anticipated engagement from 29 April 2024 – 31 January 2024 with possibility of extension

WHY WORK WITH US?

Austral Public School is located in a rapidly growing area of South West Sydney which is currently undergoing redevelopment. The school supports a community which is increasingly diverse in socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

Our current enrolment numbers stand at 680 students across 28 classes. 75.6% of students are from non-English speaking backgrounds, with the representation of language groups from the Arabic, Bengali, Indian, Nepalese and Pakistani communities. The Italian language, heritage and culture are fostered through our Italian community language program and 5% of our students are Aboriginal. We see a consistently growing need to support our students and their families who have language backgrounds other than English. Our Language Background other than English (LBOTE) representation is 83.8%.

The teaching staff has a balance of experienced and newly appointed teachers, as the school grows and new staff are employed, we are committed to ensuring that the current methods of best practice are embedded in all classes. There is a strong culture of quality teaching through continuous reflection and high quality professional learning. As the enrolments increase, so does the complexity of students needs, including those requiring additional support in learning and behaviour, through individual learning plans. Explicit teaching of literacy and numeracy, which is differentiated to meet the needs of all learners, is a focus for the school.

Addition information about our school, including our school plan can be found on our website: https://austral-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

Staff and students are proud of our diverse school community and is committed to enhancing home and school partnerships. The Community Hub leader role requires the successful applicant to strengthen the connections between the school, parents/caregivers and the wider community, through the implementation of the National Community Hubs Program.

In partnership with Community Hubs Australia, our school operates an on-site Community Hub. The space welcomes families from a culturally diverse background, particularly mothers with young children, using place-based programs to connect, share and learn. The hub bridges the gap between families who have recently arrived in Australia and the wider community by connecting them with organisations that can provide health, education and settlement support. More information about the Community Hubs program can be found at: https://www.communityhubs.org.au
